it feels like you guys are just describing long, sweeping albums that are all over the place. like david comes to life isn't actually a double album but could easily be seen as one (or a quadruple album since its four acts of a rock opera), but its not because thats not how the band put it out there. or like illinois by sufjan stevens. these are big, huge towering records with different movements and parts to them and while that's impressive in its own right and a huge achievement its not a double album, hell its almost more impressive that some of these are actually just one album.

anyway I didn't mean to bog down this thread re: this distinction it doesn't really matter lol

interesting though to track how the term has evolved as the way we consume music also evolves

also: fucking LMAO @ "double playlists"

  4. Agreed that double album classification comes down entirely to presentation, but EPs have specific classification guidelines set by the RIAA so idk if those are up for debate really

The Wall is a 4/2 album, whereas Mellon Collie is a 4 x 3 ÷ 6 album how is this not clear

    all we have is time

I didn't realize it was this difficult to understand haha. A double album is two separate records packaged as one. There will be two "track 1's" because there are two separate track lists for each album. Paramore's S/T is one 17 track record. ILIWYS is also 17 tracks. Not a double album.

A long album is not a double album....

Exile was branded as a double album by the band.

For the life of me, I can’t understand criticizing the title of a piece of art without first having experienced the attendant piece of art.

Grant Wood: My new painting is entitled “American Gothic”. I can’t wait for the world to see it.

    Internet: What a dumb title.

Really? for the life of you, you can't understand how people could get a first impression from a title that was released to give people a first impression?

Chicago vs NY vs Connecticut is some next level shit.

Yes everyone knows the point of releasing an album title is to give you a taste of the album, through the power of words

Nobody said the SONG was dumb, they said the title was dumb. The title gives people a first impression of 'oh I like this title' or 'oh, i don't like this title'. Nobody is judging the song nor the finished piece of art. It's just a statement based on the one piece of information given. I only chimed in when ya'll decided to get hyperbolic with it. Also I'm pretty sure most bands craft songs and album titles to at least be somewhat evocative of the songs theme or sound, and release song titles/album titles to tease at that, but what do I know. I'll start treating every single news article as 'BAND' is coming out with 'SONG' on 'ALBUM' and completely ignore the creative process that goes into naming. I'll also ignore all artwork to.
