i don't get how that "there's no misogyny in rock" misquote exists. did the interviewer think he really said that? i'd have at least confirmed with him afterwards, off the record, cause that obviously doesn't make sense.

Because it's juicier for a journalist to publish a sensational quote instead of having integrity and trying to mediate the response and gain clarity. Gotta get those clicks.

Sometimes I feel Matty's sometimes erratic responses in interviews make him an easy target for trying to frame him as an asshole.

And his style, where he talks a lot, makes it very easy to take a portion of what he said, screen shot it, and blast it out to twitter. His soundbites are always weird. I say that at someone that's listened to a bazillion interviews with the dude. He says what he's feeling/thinking, but he can be all over the place and some stuff does not come out right, even if I think I can get an idea of what he's trying to say. I highly doubt this will be the last time he says something dumb and ignorant. How he handled it was what more people should do. So many bands/artists double down instead.

I think the really refreshing thing is that you can tell it was genuine and coming directly from him. It wasn't a long post prepared by his team
