No worries! For me the disconnect is in the lyrics of the first verse, as well as the line "you said you had enough".

Listened to the first chunk of ILIWYS in the car on the way to school during our first blizzard ha ha ha that was fun

No but really I love how wintery that album can be for me. I’m sure the new one will be the same

They sound great on Live Lounge. Seems like we'll get horns and a choir for the tour.

When I first came across this band, I thought they sounded good, but for the longest time I wasn't motivated to listen to a full album or go out of my way to listen.

Then, in the lead up to ILYWYS, I became a big fan. I loved the "Love Me" music video and ate up all the singles, and then loved the album. And, retroactively loved their debut. They became one of my top 5 active bands/artists.

And, yet, outside of "Love Me" and some individual lines here and there, I mostly loved their sound & aesthetic. I knew there was something special there, but the particular perspective Matty was coming from was largely the literal opposite of my lived experience, lol.

    But, this album...

There's still a lot of specifics that aren't my experience, but so much of the thematic thrust does really speak to where I'm at. I made this comment last night, but hearing this album for the first time on my 30th birthday was too perfect. Something about this album is just so perfect for ushering in my 30s, in a way that's hard to fully articulate.

I stand by my description, before the leak, of this as a type of cynicism towards cynicism. "Love It If We Made It" is how I feel when I look at the world. "Sincerity is Scary" and "Give Yourself a Try," not in specifics but in core feeling, are perfect mantras for me. And, "I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)"... Um. Yeah. That song. Ok.

When Kacey Musgraves' album came out, I thought it was the album to beat. Then, mewithoutYou came out, which I didn't connect with lyrically the way I usually do with the band, but it spoke to something emotionally upon further listens. And, now, The 1975 have released an album that takes me on a mewithoutYou path to a Kacey Musgraves destination, if that makes any sense.

    This album.

I totally thought I had worn the singles out, but they sort of somehow feel fresh with the entire album.

So what's the consensus opinion? Does her hair smell really bad like feet or do her feet smell really good like freshly shampooed hair?

the live lounge stuff is great, matty's live singing voice is the strongest i've ever heard it (which is, y'know, relative, but he sounds v good imo)
