I could see this song being a blast live with full amplification, deep bass, and George bashing on his kit but the recorded version sounds so small and lacking dynamics.
I'll have to give this another listen tomorrow on some better speakers. The guitar tone + phone speakers is not a good combo. Couldn't even really discern chord progression beneath it.
Not a good song at all and I was so excited. The lyrics are cringe inducing and dumb (though I get this is one is subjective so don't crucify me if you disagree), the guitar tone is grating (and as many have pointed out a complete rip off of Joy Division Disorder) so overall it's way, way off the mark for me.
As a drummer, I admire his hi-hat work. "Girls" is like a master class in adding groove, as is "She's American".
Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it through the looped guitar riff and tone. Also, what is a Zoot? Is he referring to a zoot suit?
I figure self proclaimed drummers would appreciate a well programmed vintage drum machine but maybe that's just me
When I first listened to this, I thought, 'it's okay. I'll probably never listen again because nothing stands out at all.' An hour later, I can't stop singing the chorus to myself, the guitar and drum combo is all I can think about, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna dye my hair red. I don't even know if I like this song, but I'm pretty sure it's the single catchiest song in the history of the world. And it just might be becoming part of the structural integrity of my soul.
The tones are cool and different for The 1975. Sounds like an 8-bit video game or something. That said, it's the same thing repeated for 3 minutes except a distorted crash coming in to give the chorus some lift. It's a tad boring for me but I bet it'll rip when it's live and in your face.
That’s legit what I’m most excited for live, especially if they did an extended outro jamming the eff out
That guitar tone nearly kills an otherwise great song, which is weird because their guitar tones are usually beautiful. I'm sure I'll get used to it though. Excited to see where they go with this next album.
