Ain't It Fun Escape Route Hate to See Your Heart Break Part II Daydreaming Future Grow Up Interlude: Moving On
Ain't It Fun Escape Route Hate to See Your Heart Break Part II Daydreaming Future Grow Up Now Lololol ok choosing between Ain't It Fun and Last Hope is cruel, but Ain't It Fun is just such a banger I had to go with it. I love how experimental it was for them and how well that paid off. Plus the gospel choir? I mean it's really one of their best songs ever. I do want to note that I think (One Of Those) Crazy Girls is a great song, but I just think Daydreaming is even better. Everything else was pretty easy.
Ain't It Fun Escape Route Interlude: I'm Not Angry Anymore Part II Daydreaming Future Grow Up Now I'm really not okay after Ain't It Fun Vs. Last Hope RUDE :( Besides the Grammy, I mean I think what pushes this song over the edge for me is how I remember the exact place I was when I first heard it, and I put it on repeat for over an hour. Just...the boppiest bop. Last Hope still has a huge emotional place for me though. Escape Route one of the greatest jams of my life. I've always loved the lyrics of this song. I like HTSYHB a lot more than I did upon first hearing it, but I don't visit it that often. Part II was an easy choice here. Future is such a departure from a "typical" Paramore song in a way that really blew my mind. I heard that song at the perfect time in my life. Tell Me It's Okay is great but the emotional impact of Future still sticks with me. That crescendo into ambient noise, I could feel it. Grow Up Vs. Proof another hard one :( But I love the way Hayley sings Grow Up, such a bite to the words that you can hear as she sings. Gotta go with that. I think I like Now a lot more than when it first came out actually.
Ain't It Fun Anklebiters Hate to See Your Heart Break Part II (One of Those) Crazy Girls Future Grow Up Now Haven't listened to this album for such a long time. The highs are very high. The lows are... more numerous than I remember. Ain't It Fun and Part II are exceptional though.
Ain't It Fun Anklebiters Interlude: I'm Not Angry Anymore Part II (One of Those) Crazy Girls Future Grow Up Now This round was super tough again. I love love love "Last Hope" but "Ain't It Fun" is maybe the most important, turning point song in their discography. It's the song that solidified Paramore as a band that I'll follow forever. It was totally different from anything they'd done before, but seamlessly executed. I can't say enough about how well done the gospel choir section is. Usually a tired lazy trope, they pull it off and it instantly shoots the song into a stratospheric level for me. "Escape Route" is probably my favorite of the B-Sides, but the chorus of "Anklebiters" is too fun for me to not give it the win here. "Hate to See Your Heart Break" is easily my least favorite song on the album for me, so I'm gonna have an interlude win again. It's a gorgeous sounding song but it's the one time on s/t (a sprawling double album that has a band at the peak of their powers trying several different styles) where they get close to missing the mark. I also may be just remembering how it was the only point during one of the AL shows where I felt like the energy lulled. "Part II" is another red hot BANGER, and honestly it outdoes "Let the Flames Begin" for me. For once, the sequel improves upon the original. I expect "One of Those Crazy Girls" to lose handily here, but I just love the bratty pop-punk/Best Coast/Rilo Kiley vibes on this track. Some of Hayley's most cutting lyricism and one of her best (of dozens) vocal performances on this particular album. That final chorus thooooooooooooooooooo What is there to say about "Future" that hasn't been said? The fake-out ending, the post-rock climax, everything about it is what I never knew I wanted from Paramore. Still their best closer imo. This last one was almost tough for me, but gotta give it to the awesome "wall of sound" production on "Now" srry this was so long but this album owns
Last Hope. Thought I’d vote AIF but while the first half is perfect, most of the second half of the song is unnecessary. Anklebiters Hate to See Your Heart Break Part II Daydreaming Future Grow Up Now
Last Hope Anklebiters Interlude: I'm Not Angry Anymore Part II (One of Those) Crazy Girls Future Grow Up Interlude: Moving On First one was a killer. Ain't It Fun would've won any other of these match ups!
wow I forgot to write a blurb about "Grow Up" but uh yeah It's my favorite tour opener of theirs ever, it has a perfect synthesis of their sonic inclinations mixed with JMJ's production (the M83 synth flourishes at the end) someone already said it but the BITE in Hayley's vocals make it irresistible "Proof" is one of the top 5 best songs on the album but....... "Grow Up" is "Grow Up"
@Aregala that point about HTSYHB being the lull in the AF show is another reason I had to pass on it. Although the fact that it was written for Taylor still brings a tear to my eye. :;] Let us all take a moment to remember how blessed we were by the production on this album, thank you JMJ.
Ain't It Fun (MAN this was hard) Escape Route Hate to See Your Heart Break Part II (One of Those) Crazy Girls Future Grow Up Now
Last Hope Escape Route Hate to See Your Heart Break Part II Daydreaming Future Grow Up Now Ain't It Fun vs. Last Hope was tough.
Last Hope (hard, hard match up.) Escape Route (have yet to stop feeling this song deep in my soul) Interlude: I'm Not Angry Anymore (HTSYHB is my least favorite paramore ballad I can’t believe it’s a setlist staple) Part II (I DIED seeing this back to back w LTFB on Monumentour) Daydreaming (I’ve come around on CG but Daydreaming is so special to me) Future Grow Up (this song never fails to make me feel better when I’m angry/petty/etc.) Now Fun story 1: I was on tour with Empire! Empire! when AIF won the Grammy and I screamed in a bar in public when I found out. Fun story 2: when Now dropped I was 9 hours into an 11 hour shift alone at Family Video and I locked the doors so I could listen to it without anyone walking in.
