A friend of mine at work said she's been trying to find this song where there's a screamed lyric "everything you say is a lie." She couldn't remember anything else. Any guesses.

Really bummed I missed his show tbh. I’m glad he’s moving on from that period, but damn, that was my only chance to hear those songs

I'm really tempted to pre order Metric's new record but I should stop spending so much money on vinyl. Such a dilemma.

So i never posted about my Mount Eerie show in detail actually. Probably because my wife and i drove to Calgary (3 hours away from me) for it, so i got home really late that night but still had to go back to work the next day.. anyway.

Seeing Phil play the Crow / Now Only songs live was a really interesting experience. First of all, being that close to one of my favorite musicians of all time and finally seeing him live was super cool and super surreal. I remember the day of the show lurking through his twitter and seeing him mention that his chicago date (which was a couple weeks ago now, or something) would be his last show in a while.

Phil gets on stage and the audience goes silent as the first thing he proclaims through the microphone is "death is real...". He finished playing Real Death and the audience applauded, one kid in the front pulled out his phone to get a picture or video or something and Phil told the kid / audience "dont take pictures of me", he actually seemed decently peeved by it lol. The patterned followed, Phil would play these heart wrenching autobiographical songs of death, and the crowd cheers. The clapping, cheering, and applause was visibly grating for him. And why wouldnt it be??? Take the music of it away, and youre on a stage telling a bunch of strangers about the worst thing thats ever happened to you ever, and after every story they clap and cheer. It was just reeeeally apparent he wasnt comfortable being made a spectacle of.

So im sitting here in the crowd, watching a personal hero of mine perform these songs, loving that i even get to see him play... but also thinking "man... he doesnt want to be playing these songs right now". I remember leaving the show and me and my wife talking as we talked back to our car. We basically talked about how amazing his performances were, how incredibly composed he was, but we also talked about the fact that we hoped he never plays these songs again after the Chicago date (if that is actually what he wants, obviously).

At the end of his set he said "thanks everyone for all the... attention", and that was basically all he said all night. I dont really know how to explain it man, but you could just see it in him, especially in between songs and during applause's that he didnt want to be doing it.

Damn yeah, that sounds rough. Also, I’m genuinely kinda surprised the crowd wasn’t more reserved considering the content.

Well i should clarify, its not like the crowd roaring by any means. But i just think any bit of clapping was eating at him. i think more than anything you could just tell he was past the point of "playing these live is therapeutic"

I'll see you again in 25 years Prestigious

Especially since it was a Canadian crowd. Figured they'd be more considerate

its like... it was an appropriate level of clapping, but had it been up to Phil, it probably woulda been silent instead
