Ok, now that I’m sober, let me explain. I was listening to Stuff You Should Know and they were talking about how historians generally agree that President James Buchanan was the first gay president. Not only that, but all evidence points to him being openly gay at the time and people didn’t seem to care at that point in time. So, it’s interesting to think about the concept of progress and how we often think, “oh, we’re in the present, so it must be the most progressive time on earth.” But that might not be the case, and something like Donald Trump’s presidency is indicative of that. Granted, we are obviously way more advanced in a lot of social issues than we were when Buchanan was president, but it’s still interesting to think about.
