I like movies, but I mostly hate the movie-going experience. I have to deal with traffic on my way there (and back), pay for parking, pay for overpriced food and drink, sit in a theater with a bunch of assholes who mostly talk or play on their phone through the movie, listen to the movie on their overly-loud sound system, and miss like 10 minutes if I have to walk the half-mile to the bathroom and back.

But seriously I don't have Cinemark where I am, but I assume it's the same as any other chain.

 

That sounds terrible. City life I guess? I don't have much of those issues, just the people sometimes.

 

I’ve been going to the earliest showings when I go to movies lately and that tends to weed out the shitty moviegoers most of the time.

Yeah, with Disney being the worst offender. Depending on the movie they’ll take like 70%. I definitely think they should get some of the profit, they are letting us show their movie after all, but at a certain point I think it can be a little ridiculous. But they call the shots.

 

The people are the worst part, by far.

And that's not even to mention that now, with kids, we have to pay for a babysitter, which at least doubles the cost.

 

Pretty much all digital. We don’t even get hard drives anymore. The movies are sent to our servers via satellite

 

Disney’s practices are such bullshit. Forcing out smaller movies so Avengers or Star Wars can play on 8 screens is ridiculous

It doesn’t hurt me so much at a theater with 14 screens but when I was managing an 8 screen and they wanted 5+ screens it’s like okayyyyy

 

But you still have to pay for the files right because they're encrypted right

 

The files are free, but you have to pay to decrypt them.

 

Yeah we’ll get the “keys” to unlock the features a couple days before it’s released, depending on the movie

 

I go to movies at like 10am on Sunday when I have the theater to myself.

All this Disney talk reminds me:

It’s actually Disney’s fault that the public domain hasn’t seen any new significant entries in the last decade or so because they lobbied congress to extend the length of time between when a character or piece of work is created and when it can enter into the public domain. All of this done to protect their characters. But the kicker is that Disney built an empire benefiting from literary works in the public domain that they remade.
