I'll be surprised if we ever see Osaka play again. With Osaka out and Swiatek looking vulnerable at the United Cup, it will be interesting to see if Coco can make a deep run on the women's side. Two American men that could make some noise at the Australian Open are Ben Shelton and Christopher Eubanks. The latter has been around for some time, but a great Challenger Tour season last fall has given him some extra boost of confidence. Shelton is the next big thing after an NCAA championship and winning several Challenger events. Also, don't forget the Netflix show comes out on Friday. Reviews seem mostly positive. My only trepidation is that it is going to be too dependent on Kygrios. Obviously, he had a great year, but I just can't stand the guy.
Don't give up on Andy as the match is heading to a fourth set. He chased down some absolutely ridiculous balls in the third set. This is the apex of his conditioning since his comeback began. He may end up losing this match, but his performance so far this year shows that he absolutely has some tennis left in him.
Told ya'll about Ben Shelton. Kind of crazy that the first time he ever finds himself outside the United States he is in a Grand Slam QF.
Ive watched this a ridiculous amount of times now. I'm pretty out the loop with players these days so was trying to puzzle the shot selections by the chap at the baseline closest to camera. His finishing shot is incredible, but just trying to figure out why when the player was down he hit to his forehand.
It seems like they were kind of practicing. Just toying with each other - what we used to call it. Making really good and fun shots, but never actually hitting the put away. I don’t get it either.
I agree with you. I ended up discussing it at my tennis club with a fair few folk and I concluded is that as the rally went on he decided to play the higher percentage shot over the lowest part of the net. This is actually clever as you could see earlier in the rally he hit a wicked down-the-line shot. Where as at my club level tennis more often if your tired most players try to "finish" the point. Dont know if this makes any sense!
It’s defensive tennis. Make the other make a mistake. Andy Murray is probably one of the greatest ever at it.
French Open won't feel right without Rafa there. I really hope he can have a healthy 2024 as he deserves the sendoff. Preparing myself to be balling my eyes out at 2024 US Open. Rafael Nadal withdraws from French Open due to injury, says 'next year is my last year' | CNN
Pretty clear that clay is in Medvedev's head as he gets upset in round one of the French Open by a player ranked in the 170s.
