Crazy that Raducanu is 6th in that list in what has been an injury prone year since the astounding events of the last US Open. In a way, it’s a shame she’s been monetised, but I am sure I’d do the same if I went from nothing to winning a Grand Slam.
Serena played so well last night. I might have to revise my prediction about her not making it to the second week, though she will face a tougher test tomorrow. Men's draw is in a state of flux with some crazy upsets over Fritz and Tsitsipas. With Medvedev and Nadal vulnerable, this could be the year where we see a Raducanu-type run on the men's side. Or it just makes it easier for the two to steamroll into the final.
I think I saw my shitty ex in one of those box seats next to someone famous and had to tune out for awhile but I eventually came back and watched the rest of the game. She played so well and if every match is going to be like that, maybe she could make a decent run.
Speaking of Roddick… he did commentary / pundit work for BBC before the pandemic. I kid you not , he was amazing. Great insights along with good humour. Never been on again! Assuming a USA broadcaster snapped him up?
I loved him when he did a US Open awhile back. I’m not sure if ESPN snagged him or not, now that you say it. He’d be better than the Chrissie Evert/Mary Jo Fernandez/John McEnroe/Darren Cahill monopoly we’ve had for like a decade.
I’m not sure i remember the name of who it was but they tried two new people at Wimbledon and they were just brutally bad
In a sport filled with a bunch of spoiled brats who lack a lot of self-awareness, Petkovic was a breath of fresh air. Speaking of freshening up the broadcast booth, she would slot in so well there. But she is so intelligent and talented that she has numerous paths in her post-playing career. Highlight of today for me is Draper vs. Auger-Aliassime. I'll be disappointed if it doesn't go at least four sets. On the women's side, the focus for me are the evening matches with Serena playing the second seed and Andreescu playing Haddad Maia. Bianca arrived here with little fanfare and despite getting a primetime slot tonight, she was not discussed much in terms of being a contender for fair reasons, however, if she can get a run going she could be dangerous. She has a tough test ahead of her but would be cool to see her back in the fold.
Serena looks 80%. Kontaveit looks nervous. I think one break wins a set. They’re both protecting themselves pretty well.
The fact Serena didn’t win this 6-3 6-2 is a testament to how well Tomljanovic is doing. This third set is going to be insane or an utter collapse and I have no idea.
This is the first match of this mini run where Serena’s age is apparent. Truly amazing what she’s been able to do for so many years. I don’t think she has the legs left to win this set.
I feel like this third set could have gone a lot different if Serena had been able finish out the 2nd faster/without a tie break. This is a great match though, I’m happy I decided to watch it.
