Novak is in Park (detention) Hotel with refugees, some of whom have been detained there for nine years. Now that Australia’s horrific treatment of refugees is in the spotlight, I really hope that Novak uses his platform to help make a change
Djokovic not being vaccinated is whatever compared to how inhumane the Australian government has been towards their own citizens, let alone foreigners/refugees for at least the last eighteen months since the first initial lockdown.
I feel this is premature - N. Djokovic took the first set... B. Control has come back strong and is leading 2-1. But we’ve seen Djokovic fake an injury and claw his way back to a 3-2 five setter before... haha!
So, Novak tested positive for COVID on December 16th. And the NEXT DAY he went to an event for young tennis players where he and the kids weren’t wearing masks. Fire this asshole into the sun. Amid Deportation Battle, Court Documents Show Novak Djokovic Had COVID-19 Last Month
I have done zero research into this and it pains me to attempt to defend Djokovic. However, was his test a routine test he had to do weekly etc or was this test done because he thought he had symptoms.
From the horse’s mouth: He attended things after knowing he was positive despite 14 days isolation being compulsory in Serbia. Hard to defend.
today I learned that Australia let Nadal in 11 days after he tested positive so maybe it's just all useless theater at this point
djokovic is out I hate djoker but the whole thing stinks of political flexing and not actual fighting/preventing Covid
They give a shit but their government still handled the whole thing badly. Everyone comes out of this badly: Tennis Australia, Djokovic, the Australian government. There are no winners even if we got to the correct place eventually.
I thought they had to be vaccinated to play but since that’s not necessarily true, idk how to feel about it exactly
Why is it not necessarily true? It was pretty clear that you needed to be vaccinated or medically exempt which is why 97 out 100 of the top 100 men got vaccinated. 2 players unvaccinated didn’t try to get into Australia. The other is Djokovic and he did try to play, but didn’t provide proof of medical exemption. He was led to believe by Tennis Australia that recent covid infection was an adequate exemption to get in but that wasn’t true. I have appreciated Tsitsipas and Nadal’s comments.
I would genuinely like to hear more about why you are conflicted. Sorry if my post didn’t communicate that. I am open to listening and I do think that Djokovic was mislead by Tennis Australia that he could attend and then completely stitched up by the Australian government.
I’m not conflicted, I actually agree with you. I guess I wasn’t clear on how many people got exemptions and how real those were. I didn’t realize it was so many vaccinated and almost no demotions, which changes what I originally thought. Where do you most of the people here go for tennis news? I feel like I have a hard time finding articles like that, especially compared to other sports.
