Heard my elderly neighbours complaining that Djokovic always feigns injury when things are against him. It was a hilarious conversation to listen to over the fence.
As much as I wish it wasn’t true, I think today solidifies him as the GOAT. Rafa is the clear clay GOAT and I think Roger retains grass GOAT, but yeah. Djokovic completing the slams/master double (which no one else has done once) kinda makes it a no-brainer.
Got Wimbledon final tickets today although every tournament I get tickets for nasal seems to pull out of!!!
I never really gave credence to people saying that the "state of tennis today is bad, and that's why the big 3 win all the time" but yeesh, djokovic is just going to win for the forseeable future unless he gets hurt. I think berettini is the only player left who has a shot, and it's a long one. everytime we think a player has arrived they fall off: raonic a few years ago, thiem, zverev. there's just no real threat. maybe medvedev if he can get his game right for hardcourt.
I think Medvedev and Tsitsipas are the only real challengers at this point. Mayyyyybe Korda in a few years.
Djokovic is an absolute unit. I saw him play back in 2006 against a Murray. Back when Murray was in his wild and swearing phase as a youngster. Djokovic was a machine then so I’m not surprised he is on cruise control. I’ve been fortunate enough to see Djokovic maybe 4 or 5 times now. Not particularly a fan of Him personally, I’m not sure why. However, I think I do have to count myself lucky I’ve managed to see now potentially the greatest tennis player in my lifetimes career from almost start to finish. I’m now off down to London to watch the final :)
I’m jealous. He keeps pulling out everything I potentially could see him at (even before covid). I think on my bucket list is to go to all four grand slams. I think Wimbledon is the only one ballotted and I’ve managed to tick off. Roland Garros is an hour flight. US Open could spin into a New York holiday. Australia is timing wise horrible to get off work so not sure I could pull off without changing jobs (gives plenty of time to save!)
I'm not sure I could be bothered with the travel to Australia. I've done Wimbledon twice and the other two would be doable.
