also wouldn’t he be reversed? I can’t remember if he was wearing an oxygen mask or anything, but he does talk to Priya before killing her.

He wasn’t reversed. He would’ve had to be temporarily reversed to get to that moment, but by the time he got there, he wasn’t. Wouldn’t be surprised if he, like, checked out the situation on his way back.

I don't get it. I'm willing to accept that's on me and my dummy brain

    Whatever, lol.

I honestly don’t think it’s that complicated. But, the movie clearly didn’t connect with you like it did me, & I know I wouldn’t care about similar explanations for a movie I hated, lol. So, fair enough.

i actually disagree about the villain being uninteresting. sator was the best character in the movie and branaugh was the only one making it fun

  6. If Branagh's cartoonish performance wasn't enough an indicator, this movie felt like Nolan letting loose and having fun. I definitely think it's one of the least pretentious efforts of his.

i agree with branaugh but he was the only one who cut loose and had fun. what was fun about JDW, an actor i like a lot?

I know it’s a vague & not super helpful description, but I feel like he was really *cool* as the Protagonist. Just little things, like with the suit & whatnot. Something about the way he carried himself just had a coolness factor I dug.

On a related note, I think he had a good balance of fish-out-of-water-ness & self-assuredness for this kinda movie. Never bumbling, very confident, but just unsure enough about certain things to work as a protagonist into this world.

It appeared to me that Robert Pattinson was very much enjoying this role and I very much enjoyed him in it. He seemed like he was a having a great time.

Branagh was really good in this too. And I liked JDW in this a lot. I also just like him a lot in general as an actor.

  10. Ya maybe JDW wasn't "fun" but he was smooth as hell and worked in this role. Pattinson was definitely having fun.

This wasn’t as good as Tom Hardy’s “dream a little bigger” line in Inception, but I loved it in a very similar way.

(Was funny watching this & The Devil All the Time in the same week. Love you, Patman.)

I enjoyed Pattinson a lot. I don’t remember thinking JDW was all that great though. Still need to rewatch this with subtitles.

i love Patz. this is probably my least favorite performance of his in years. other than the unintentional comedy of hearing about how he was the Nolan stand-in for the film, which is hilarious

I thought this movie was super fun. All the fun I was having allowed me to ignore the fact that I had no idea what the hell was happening. I thought Washington and Pattinson were both absolutely incredible in this. Granted, I am a huge fan of both actors, but still.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Elizabeth Debicki gave the only performance in this I actually cared for tbh

Just finished. It was ok? I don’t think it was terrible. Like others have said I think the biggest problem is it’s straight up boring most of the time which is surprising.

it’s funny how the narrative has changed with him. as recently as two movies ago, for the longest time it was “oh, you just weren’t paying attention. watch it again, you’ll get it next time” to now being “oh, you’re trying to hard, it’s just a fun movie. don’t overthink it”

at a certain point, you have to start looking at the filmmaker and less at the people watching the films

How many of the same people are saying both of these things, though? Just speaking for myself, this being more of “a fun movie” is specifically a big part of me preferring it to Interstellar (which felt like it was trying to reach further without, for me, paying off in the end). That’s also part of why I warmed up a lot to The Dark Knight Rises in spite of its story issues, & why I fell back in love with Inception. And, it’s also why “Tenet is pretentious” is such a baffling critique to me, lol; it being lower on the “pretentious” spectrum for Nolan is a big part of the appeal to me, as a more casual Nolan fan who’d fallen out of love with his work over the past decade.

I've always thought Nolan's movies were fun films with fun ideas. I've never really found him pretentious at all but I also just don't like that as a criticism of art really.

This one had a fun idea I just didn't find the film as engaging as most of his other stuff.

I guess people say that about his films because he himself comes across a bit pretentious? But I never understood what about his movies was pretentious. Unless, for example, people think the idea of making superhero movies with the tone of the Batman trilogy is an inherently pretentious thing to do (which, it obviously isn’t, he just had a vision for what he wanted to do with the character and executed it).

I think the movie of his that comes the closest to being pretentious is probably Interstellar, but even that movie ends by basically saying “the power of love” is what saved humanity so is it even really *that* pretentious? I don’t think so.

my guy talks to black hole scientists about movies that, when boiled down, are pretty simplistic. and he tells everyone repeatedly how much he does this. that doesn’t come across as pretentious to you?

people clown tom delonge for doing the same thing.

not really, he was trying to make some cool looking black holes for his space movie, he's just proud of his black holes.
