Did anyone else kinda hate the way that the main character delivered his lines every time he was getting information/questions answered? It was so distracting that I couldn't even tell what they were actually saying. It felt like I was just listening to the script in audiobook form or something. I don't really know how to describe it.
Far and away the biggest issue with this is the sound mixing IMO. Two characters could just be having a pretty normal conversation and the score/bass basically renders it inaudible.
I had issues with sound during interstellar as well. Felt like the music was way too loud a lot of times and drowned out dialogue.
I read before he hardly does ADR for the actors and that could contribute to a lot of the poor sound and mix? I have no idea if that’s true of course
i had two moments during interstellar where the volume was out of control loud but i figured it was just the imax theater
so to those who have seen it, do you think the problems with the sound would be worsened by seeing this at the drive in and having to listen through a shitty FM radio? or do you think the sound is already an issue, so it's not gonna make much difference and wouldn't be worth waiting (indefinitely) for a VOD release just to have better sound.
It's 'Automated Dialogue Replacement'. It's when an actor re-records lines later on after the scene is done if they can't get good enough audio while shooting the actual scene for whatever reason.
the way he mixes the sound sometimes the music is waaaaay louder than the dialogue. the scene in interstellar with michael caine in the hospital bed comes to mind. that being said its an artistic choice and I didnt mind it in interstellar. sounds like it can be really annoying though when your movie is very exposition heavy.
Something like the club scene in The Social Network makes sense to have the dialog drowned out by the background music. That's how it'd be if you were actually in the room. When it's just the two main characters walking down the street and the bass is roaring in the background like you're at an EDM festival, it not only renders what they're saying inaudible, it kind of takes me out of the movie. It's really my ONLY problem with the movie, but it's kind of a big one for me.
Man, the plot of the movie is a real trip; watching it play out was crazy to see. As I'm listening to the dialogue though, seeing the different set pieces, and working to understand the plot as it goes along, I just wasn't that wowed with it, like I was in Interstellar or TDK. After the film was done I was like "yeah, I guess that was cool". To me it simply doesn't have as good of rewatchability like Nolan's other films
The dialogue was very hard to hear which is bad when it’s all exposition. This was enjoyable but falls about if you think about it at all.
I don’t recall feeling like I couldn’t hear the dialogue. I was mostly just annoyed with how quickly the dialogue was spoken when it was important info explaining what the hell was going on. If you’re going to have a super detailed sci fi plot, you need to make sure the audience can follow along with it.
I've never made it through Dunkirk and outside of the visuals/score...Interstellar is just sort of meh.
