Shaming is extremely real around here and it's super old. The fact that people are actually having to preface their posts with whatever safety precautions they followed speaks volumes.
I’m not saying that any of that hasn’t happened here. I just think that was an extremely disingenuous reading of Seth’s post
I didn’t get a “I hope you die” feel out of that post either but I agree with the rest of the response.
Fair take, but moving forward maybe we should refrain from the snide remarks every time someone hints to having done something out in the world.
Isn’t that the undercurrent of all “enjoy getting Covid” posts, though? I don’t think Seth wishes anyone death, especially me as we mostly get along and have for years. But responding in a similar manner of exaggeration used was part of the point.
How is responding in exaggeration claiming someone wished you dead any close to what Seth said? yeesh
Remember, y'all: No one here (that I know of) has the ability to create a comprehensive lockdown paired with appropriate aid during said lockdown, or an efficient system of testing & tracing, or a vaccine. So, as we approach the half-year mark of this pandemic (in the States; don't recall the timeline of other countries)... We should probably learn how to coexist better "in these difficult times" with the nuances of each other's decisions, as long as we know we're doing so in good faith without treating the virus as a hoax or whatever. And, that coexisting should probably include both having grace for those whose calculated decisions look a little different than ours (again, assuming said decision isn't clearly negligent or whatever), & having grace for those who themselves have a misstep in showing grace. All sorts of unique personal circumstances, mental health stuff, stress, sociological factors, basic human miscommunication, etc., are mixed up in all this. We all suck at this sometimes (I bet the last time I was a shithead wasn't that long ago). But, at least amongst those of us who are connected to this community enough for us to know intentions probably aren't malicious... surely we can all keep striving to be, like, more excellent to each other or whatever? I mean, is a Christopher Nolan film really worth having this kinda personal fight over? lol.
it was more like, “hope you turn out ok” but honestly looking back it does kinda look like something less kind. i apologize
I fail to see how "well let's see if you get the virus that's killed over a million people in two weeks" being personally read as "I hope you die" isn't at least in the same ball field, especially when it's not the first time he's said it to me (not expecting any of you to have known this) regarding seeing a movie in theaters (on day 10 of that one, feeling fine). Nevertheless, I'm sorry for anyone (especially Seth) who may have found it offensive. It probably wasn't a helpful way to put it, but how would you respond to someone implying that you deserve to get a virus in the middle of a pandemic. I've said what I've needed to in the remainder of my initial post and focusing on the first sentence alone is purposefully driving it away from the actual conversation that needs to be had. @Tim put it wonderfully and with more grace than I could've. Let's let this thread be about the movie. Speaking of which--after sleeping on it and talking with a friend who also saw it, it's really, really confusing and bad plot-wise. It crumbles under an ounce of thought.
it's all good, bud. (just realized i forgot to tag you in my apology one post up). it's a tough year and we're all responding and dealing with things with a lot of exerting pressures.
Saw this last night. Enjoyed it quite a bit, but I think I would truly appreciate it seeing it at home with subtitles. I had a lot of trouble understanding the dialogue, especially in the first half of the movie. I don't if it was my theatre or what. The action is phenomenal and I think they build the story really well. You just have to be really patient and just go with the flow even though you may not understand what is happening until halfway into the movie. With that being said, if you're on the fence about going, I would say wait to stream it as there is nothing cinematography wise that you'll miss seeing without a big screen. Having subtitles will be a huge boost as well.
I went into this with 0 expectations because I hadn't read a synopsis or even seen a trailer. It was a pretty good little mind fuck though. There was a point where I thought it was the end of the movie and setting up for a sequel, but nope, actually another 30-45 min were left, haha.
I made a last minute decision to go see this the other day. Wore a mask the entire time. Felt a lot more uncomfortable about going to Target on Saturday than sitting in the theater at the earliest showing. Always been a big fan of Nolan’s movies. This is so fast paced and all the plot points are thrown at you with little time for you to comprehend what’s going on. We saw it in IMAX. My ears were ringing the rest of the night. It was so loud lol. I’d give it a B+
Considering going out to the drive in to see this some time next week. Wondering if the sound will be an issue since it's through the radio, and I've heard a few people mention the sound mixing was "off"
“There’s a lot of cool action scenes but what I thought was cool was the plane crash.” I’m assuming this movie is cool.
