no shame at all. nolan is fine. he has some very good movies. he has some pretty average movies. i’m allowed to have a doubt you dorks.
Nolan is much better than fine, but yeah he certainly doesn't have a perfect record, nor does any any filmmaker with at least one movie that's no better than Interstellar. But he is, on average, great enough to keep my ears pricked up whenever he's about to do something new. Hoping Tenet will show that he learned the right lessons from Dunkirk's success/acclaim
PTA is pretty close to perfect and I would argue all of his movies are better than Interstellar. Don't get me wrong, i'm excited for this. I'm just not going in expecting a masterpiece with no doubts because he hasn't delivered a masterpiece yet.
i'd put him on the Coen/Fincher tier rn: delivers a lot of good to very good movies but also takes some swings and misses. i always respect the swing but don't always love the finished product.
Also in the camp that loves just about everything he's done. I still catch myself thinking about Interstellar from from time to time, especially that score.
The best part about Nolan is that he takes very self contained stories, and makes them feel like cerebral, high octane blockbusters. None of the directors listed above have attempted to make a blockbuster with the same scale
I'll second PTA being almost perfect and I'll add intersteller is garbage and maybe my least favorite Nolan. Dunkirk might be my favorite.
Interstellar isn't garbage, but it was a frustrating watch. One half of an incredible movie that's weighed down by some of his worst impulses, namely explaining everything to death
Though I haven't watched it since it was in theaters and it sounds like there are people who claim it's improved for them after seeing it multiple times, so...
