I agree the drop in quality of the plot after the black hole sequence is apparent and I’m not a fan of it either but to me, plot is rarely a huge deal that I latch onto anyways. I appreciate that they tried to do something wildly different, even if I didn’t like the result. I don’t know how they could’ve done it to make it “better” to me but at least they swung for the fences. But nearly everything else up until and including the black hole sequence was so amazing that that was enough for me to love it as a whole. A “bad” ending rarely causes me to dislike a whole movie, I guess.
Haha I was also just kidding. I was quite surprised to see it at the top of your list after “knowing” your taste on here. Maybe I need to give it another rewatch
TDK (might be my favorite film of all time) Inception Interstellar TDKR Batman Begins Prestige I admittedly have not seen Memento or Dunkirk. I'd say the list from 2-6 are really close. I just really enjoy Nolan films.
I'm not a plot person, either. If I find myself thinking about plot when watching something, that's usually a bad sign, lol. I think it's mostly about if I, in one way or another, enjoyed my viewing experience, & the ending (& maybe other details I no longer remember) were enough in this case to derail that ride for me. *shrug* I just love that all the big things Nolan is best at are in there, but it's also got a lot of dumb (& I mean that as a sincere compliment) comic book & action movie stuff w/out pretense or apology. Like, one of the things I initially complained about, the time bomb, has become something I love about it. Which, I especially appreciate given the way the film before it became this weird beacon of how to take superheroes "seriously," which is such a dangerous game to play. The best things in The Dark Knight are things that are fun, not the things that are A Serious Film That Elevates The Genre And Much Be Taken Seriously™. The same thing comes up in conversations about Logan... which, like Nolan's Batman films, actually has more dumb genre fun in it than fans of Serious Films™ (which, at best, extends to Oscar bait for the crowd I'm describing) can admit. Which, is what leads to the Batman dorks who love the Joker movie & hate Joel Schumacher (RIP). And, complain about "Mary Poppins" Leia, can't appreciate Venom, etc., etc. There's silly, wholesome fun in all of Nolan's Batman films, no matter how dark they get, but I think Rises is the one where it feels the most deep down comic-book-y. It's the one that, for me, feels the most like someone who grew up loving Superman, Star Wars, & James Bond.
But seriously this WW84 black widow and all the big budget films need to be pushed back to next summer Another reason is are studios even filming now? What could possibly release next summer
There were things that were in post or close to it, like The Suicide Squad for example was I think done w/ principle photography. And, I think some films are starting up production again here & there, like Batman?
I don’t think much of anything is filming now, but i saw that Jurassic world 3 was gearing back up to start shooting again in the UK soon, spending millions and millions on safety procedures.
I liked his Batman movies but my favs are probably Inception cause I had never felt that way walking out of a theater before and Momento because I just liked the style of the storytelling.
Inception, Dunkirk, and The Dark Knight are all in my top 15 of all-time (Inception may be my favorite movie period). I love them so much. Interstellar and The Prestige aren't far behind.
