3 part docuseries produced by the Safdie brothers and Danny McBride.

"The unexpected 20-year journey of two unlikely office buddies, who stumble upon the truth behind the work they've been doing at a seedy call centre, persuading people to give money to charities, and vow to expose the American telemarketing industry."

Patrick J Pespas is one of my favorite characters on tv right now just from watching one episode.

Working in call centers for years and years and knowing all the archetypes of people who work there, Pat fits onto my all time favorite "call center guy" archetype I have encountered, which is "the middle aged fuck up dirtbag who is way too intelligent to be working there but has no other choice" Guy.

I enjoyed the first episode a lot, but it gets a little too "oh man what we're doing is so crazy and so dangerous" and constantly reminders of how crazy and dangerous and wild it is.

This doc made me badly want an TV-MA workplace comedy that is like The Office but every character is variation of Creed. Like what Sunny is to Seinfeld.

I guess Workaholics is a little like that but not exactly what I'm imagining in my head.

Really enjoyed the first episode and Pat fucking rules but I feel like this isn't really going to go anywhere/they aren't going to fix/solve anything

The CDG office Sam and Pat worked at was in New Brunswick. Yoo I betchu Sam was going to some Thursday basement shows.

This so much. I wouldn't be surprised if we see more specials pop up about working at these places, hell I could see Danny making a comedy ala The Office. The content IS there. People DO have stories. These places were WILD to work at and I especially remember the super lavish office parties held at the Marriott or other fancy hotels and copious amount of alcohol and drugs had.

It's honestly not much different than working in a restaurant. Only taken to the absolute extreme. Definitely met lots of similar people in my restaurant days.

I've always imagined it's exactly like that Ryan Reynolds movie Waiting.

Yeah working in a restaurant kitchen can be pretty crazy. When it’s busy it’s stressful and intense and people are yelling at each other like the bear and when it’s not busy usually at least one person is doing something like tripping on acid and convinces you to try some. You definitely meet some characters.
My call center days were was around 2008 and it was a lot of college grads who couldn’t find a job

I don't pick up for numbers I don't know, but that because I know from years of being on the phones myself that unless that person calling you is getting a commission..they do not want you to answer. By picking up the phone and answering you are actually giving that person more work to do and slowing them down by fucking with their metrics.

Just let them leave a voicemail.
