Girls have announced a new tour celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their 5th studio album The Con.
Girls have announced the release of The Con X: Covers, which will feature 14 artists covering each of the album’s tracks. It’s out October 13 via Warner Bros., and proceeds will be donated to the Tegan and Sara Foundation, their organization that supports “economic justice, health, and representation for LGBTQ girls and women.”
Was a little letdown at first when I started reading the band names, cause I've never heard of them, but the last half of the album sounds like it's going to be amazing.
Also, from the page about this on their site: THE CON X: COVERS – ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT! | Tegan and Sara Digital Bonus Tracks: 15. Cyndi Lauper – Back In Your Head 16. Bleached – One Second 17. Vivek Shraya – I Take All the Blame 18. Tegan and Sara – Miami Still (Demo)
Is it weird that cover versions have never interested me? I mean I love T&S but I'm not excited about this at all haha.
Yeah it's so boring. I mean she sings it perfectly well but it lacks any of the urgency of the original and has no new twist besides being slow and stripped down to synths. I just checked out most of these on youtube and the only one I like is Grimes doing Dark Come Soon. They all lack the character of the originals and are basically just slowed down versions without the charm.
Yeah, I don't think any of these covers surpass the originals, but The Con is pretty close to a perfect album for me already. Still, a lot of these are really good. I think my favorites off first listen are the ones by MUNA, Ryan Adams, City and Colour, Grimes, and Sara Bareilles.
I saw Tegan and Sara live this summer at Folk Fest and they were honestly one of the most disappointing performances I've seen in awhile. I know people gripe about a band's style changing, but since T&S's sound became poppier and they don't seem interested in their guitars, they have absolutely nothing to do on stage but shuffle around awkwardly while they sing. Can not recommend them live. Musically I yearn for the Sainthood days as I really enjoyed that album, but this is probably my favorite Tegan and Sara involved tune
