You can write music on a guitar and then play those same songs with more electronic instruments and sounds. I'm guessing they created the music with a producer much like they did their old records. I doubt they played and created every sound on the album but they probably directed what they wanted which seems to be what happened on all of their records.
I think I read an interview where one of them said they don't even use guitars to write songs any more. I would assume they make them on their computers at home and then polish and refine and them in the studio.
Yeah, I'm just saying you can do that. You can play all of those sounds through a keyboard or just program them on a computer. Either way you're still writing the music and they're all real instruments that are creating real music. I think you're probably right.
I don't know why you're quoting me while saying this. I've listened to it once, I have no place commenting on the musicianship yet. To your second point, I have no reason to believe that after twenty years of writing music they'd decide to pass the composition work off entirely to outside writers. I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure they always wrote their songs on acoustic guitar or piano and then fleshed them out in the studio. No reason to think they haven't kept doing so with a heavier emphasis on starting with piano or synth. And given the sound they are going for, they could do a lot worse than collaborating with Greg Kurstin on the songwriting.
i didn't care for most of the pre-release songs but now that i've heard them as an album i love them???? "stop desire"!!!!!
First few listens hot take: Standout tracks are That Girl, Faint of Heart, BWU, and Stop Desire. Album is a lot more mellow/chill (maybe a bad description) than I expected. Not too many bangers like Closer or Drove Me Wild here. This is the most disjointed the split between Tegan/Sara songs has been in album sequencing in awhile. I don't mind the actual song sequencing itself but it's a bit weird for the album to basically be half Tegan and half Sara led. Nothing on here really hits me as hard as Shock To Your System or some early songs but I'll give it time.
Yeah I was thinking that. I didn't know if it was a well known abbreviation or something. Also I listened to the album again. Liked it even more. Good stuff!
I didn't come onto chorus for like 12 hours and I missed an entire "music isn't real music unless it has guitars" argument? lmfao
After my first listen, I love it! Greg Kurstin did great with the production. I will be cranking this all summer. The vinyl is cool too, clear with white haze.
