Yesterday we welcomed in the first new class of freshmen for orientation. I legit really look forward to each orientation, and the upcoming years where I get it watch them transform from wide eyed and nervous right out of high school kids to professionals.
AP scores came in today. Once again I only had 7 kids take it, 3 kids got 5s and then the rest were one in each of 1, 2, 3, 4. Pretty damn good year. I just wish more kids would take the damn thing, I know I had some more 4s and 5s sit it out in my AP Gov class of 18
First day of summer school here. Didn't have a schedule until this morning, and the students didn't know where to go. I miss my dogs.
7 kids is a nice class, almost too small. I had six in mine this year and found it difficult to do the things I wanted. Ended up with all 4s and 5s except for one kid who didn’t try and got a 1. Best case scenario he would have topped out at a 4 if he crushed it, but a 3 would have been pretty easily attainable. All of our students are required to take the exam, no one allowed to sit out. I think I like that rule, but who knows.
yeah I had 18 kids in the class which is perfect tbh. I’ve had roughly that size class every year I’ve been doing AP gov but have only had 7, 8, and 7 take it respectively.
Oh I gotcha. I thought maybe you were talking two sewerage classes. 18 feels like the other end of the spectrum for me! Give me 10-12 :)
haha nah 18 taking the class but only 7 taking the exam. It’s annoying because I def had another 3-4 kids in there that would have gotten 4s or 5s if they took it. I’m probably looking at 25+ taking it next year which sounds rough tbh. Just so much grading haha. 18-20 is perfect because it’s not too many kids but it’s enough to keep discussion lively
Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville under lockdown; students seen evacuating we’re safe. No clue what happened but it’s chaos here right now. Tons of police and news helicopters. They dismissed the kids outside and now they are trying to get them back inside and it’s a mess.
Glad you're safe. My joker video wasn't taking it lightly, just the feeling we get around the start of the year with these types of incidents being so common now.
oh for sure, I know what you mean lol. I definitely had a moment when I texted my wife this morning of like "wow, this is really happening here and I am having to send one of these texts." turns out our school was swatted and it was a hoax... the lockdown was lifted by noon and everyone was out by 1. there was a huge police presence there, we had police come into my classroom (and all the classrooms) to clear it and they came in with their guns pointed at us. probably the most traumatic part of the day. but yeah, school's back in session so there will definitely be more of this to come around the country.
We’re getting our first measurable snowfall in 647 days or something crazy like that, and our first true snow day in two school years (well, right now they’re saying 2 hour delay but pretty sure it’s gonna get called). I am excited
Got our first snow day in awhile here. I wasn't going in anyway, since I'm recovering from surgery, but the call was still exciting since I don't have to leave plans.
we were off on Friday for snow and off today because of a cold day. 5 day weekend!!! we just got back from winter break too.
I just sent out two applications for remote project manager jobs today. Funnily enough, I teach in a charter school, too.
