I have *opinions* about this (shocking, I know) but the short version is I firmly believe this is because her music - even her missteps and baby Taylor's internalized misogyny - and persona have never once pretended to cater to the male gaze, to earn male fans, or do anything except be honest and open about her experience... and that meant calling out men who do shitty things. She obviously wasn't the first to do any of those things independently, but it was rare to see in such a young human who was so hands on in her own song creation and image. Plus, she was a pretty blonde white girl who was stepping outside the formula so it just ~triggered~ the misogynistic rage button for a lot of folks.
A few years ago, back on AbsolutePunk (pre-Chorus) some people were mentioning that "In The Wee Small Hours" by Frank Sinatra was one of the saddest albums ever. So I got curious and turned it on, and holy shit! It's no joke! It's a concept album (one of the first, if not the first concept album) about a series of break ups he'd gone through around that time. Eventually, I found it on vinyl and told myself that I wouldn't ever listen to it until the next time I went through a break up... FAST FORWARD A COUPLE YEARS... A girlfriend broke up with me and said "Well at least you can listen to that Sinatra album now..." and I looked at her like "You're trying to KILL ME?!" (But of course, I ended up listening to it, and holy shit!) Anyway, if you ever want to get sad as fuck, sit in a chair in the dark with a glass of wine, and listen to this album straight through: When you're alone, who cares for starlit skies When you're alone, the magic moonlight dies At break of dawn, there is no sunrise When your lover has gone... I MEAN
It is a damn shame I never thought to do this before. I will be listening to this and it will be going on my albums of the year for 2019 (cause I'm including old stuff I didn't get around to before) when your lover has gone.... just kill me now
I listen to end game today and I'd actually like it a lot more if it was just Taylor. Do not care for the Ed Sheeran bit
Wait this is literally me. Born in early 1992. Red came out when I was dying of heartbreak and 1989 when I was finally getting my shit back together. The real kicker with 1989 that I still can’t get over? I immediately connected to Clean, and soon realized that the 1989 album release date was 10 months TO THE D A Y (October 27, 2014) since I had spoken to my ex - “10 months older I won’t give in, now that I’m clean I’m never going to risk it.” Like wtf. Lol this is why I love her so much
I’m 8 days younger than Taylor and a different gender and yet I’m still like “these are things that I FEEL” like my God if you could’ve seen my reaction the first time I heard “Red” the song
Her emotional accuity is why I’m actually more excited to hear where she goes in the future. She’s so good at translating feeling into words, I want to find out what that looks like as she works less and less within the primary colors of youth.
Absolutely, haha. While fans and even Buzzfeed believes it's some sort of conspiracy, Taylor's like "I'm just posting pictures..."
The plane thing is 100% correct. Homegirl is like "FML" while she's cutting those wings off. "Not today little butterfly"
reports that her Elle US cover is to be revealed next week and she was photographed by this guy Ben Hassett Studio
