I've always wanted more of the pop rock stuff she was doing on Speak Now/Red, she was so good at it.

i always hear a lot of stupid discourse about her pop-centric music feeling too "stale" or "unseasoned" compared to other pop artists, and i think the complaints would be more subdued if she was mainly still making country or rock-adjacent music (or even if she kept doing the singer/songwriter stuff from folklore/evermore/TTPD). if she's competing in the pop sphere, it's always going to be commercially because i don't think she's interested in sounding like other pop artists

I have been out here demanding a pop rock record since speak now. I remember after Red when people were speculating what sound she'd go for I guessed pop/rock. And then we got 1989 which is like her straight up poppiest record haha.

Thankfully Olivia Rodrigo has filled the pop/rock void I hoped Taylor would lean into someday. I still wouldn't complain if Taylor went that route but I at least no longer have a pop/rock shaped void in my heart!

If she'd been with Matty longer than two seconds I wonder what influence he would've had on her sound, if at all. We know she's an emo kid at heart. She just needs to lean in!

I am hoping for a return to singer-songwriter style, with guitars. The less synths the better. It’s time for a reset.

The TTPD slander continues to sadden me.

Guilty As Sin and So High School are top tier and rest is all good to great

Those aren't even the two best! There's a really solid album's worth of songs

Guilty as Sin, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived and Clara Bow are all top tier to me. First half is mostly good, don’t care much for the second half

    I do not exist.

Still struggled to get into it due to the number of songs. Just seems like such a slog - even looking at that ranking and seeing how many are D and lower tires me out. If she’d given a bit of time between releasing The Anthology I might have had more time to digest it.

For the most part I just think of it as the album and the bonus tracks, I listen to the album alone usually

controversially, i really do like Fortnight. not because i think it's a good single (especially since there aren't really any good "singles" on the album) or because of Post Malone, but because it reminds me a lot of what David Bazan was doing on his last two solo albums (Blanco is one of my favorite albums of all time) and with Headphones. just that pulsing synth building into something grander is really nice to me.

“Thank You Aimee” is the worst song on that album, and one of her worst songs ever. Just massive levels of “get the fuck over it, you already won.”

TTPD is definitely not a bad album, but I think it’s the album where a lot of people got “Taylor fatigue.” A combination of cultural over-saturation, the way she released it (from the announcement at the Grammys to the tactics she used to keep it number 1 for months), and the fact that most of it feels like more of the same. Lots of good songs, but it’s the first album of her career where I really felt like she was treading water rather than moving forward in some way.

My girlfriend is a huge swiftie and made me sit down over the weekend to listen to the full anthology and I'm happy to say it clicked. Although admittedly I found myself liking the Anthology songs a bit more.

Album announcement on New Heights on Wednesday is my assumption. Sabrina is tagged on the Taylor Nation post so maybe she is on the album.
