Apparently Fortnight and The Manuscript have leaked? Or at least snippets of the song have leaked? I’ll edit this post if I see anything more.

I don't even know where to begin finding "leaks" in 2024. I feel so old :crylaugh:

I honestly feel like that is more realistic than an actual leak of her music, but who knows

There was a clip going around TikTok last night, but sounded so generic it had to be AI.

I think the biggest fake I can ever remember was the Man Overboard song from Blink before we found out it wasn't actually them.

i also have vague recollections of a fake Justin Timberlake song "leaking" back in the day before 20/20 dropped, since everyone assumed he quit music for acting.

Like this cover more, like the white vinyl of the “original” more.

Really wish she’d stop doing this. It’s okay to just have one definitive version of an album. But also where most of us can just eye roll and find whatever track(s) we end up missing, a lot of really dumb folks feel like they have to own all of it and the economy sucks too much right now to justify that.

knew this was coming. ridiculous. probably gonna hold off on picking this up physically until i've heard whatever other bonus tracks exist and determine which one to have on vinyl. never been a fan of variant collecting and i'm definitely not gonna start now.

The way she announced it was very bizarre. She made it seem like she was going to play “The Bolter” and then launched into “You’re Losing Me”.

It’s at the point now where she’s telling fans to be excited about having to spend more money on one extra song (with probably more to come).

Yea, it’s all pretty opportunistic to me. I don’t like it. You’re just exploiting a fanbase that will literally spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on variants, for different artwork and an exclusive bonus track. It’s worse when you’re the biggest artist in the world imo. Most bands/artists are generally just rewarding the biggest fans with an early bird/limited variant, this feels way worse.

This strategy is really not a good look, and I hate it. That said, it worked very well with 1989 Taylor's Version and is probably what we're stuck with from her until it stops working. It's like her take on the "let's split this book into two movies" thing that was popular in Hollywood a decade ago.

    Things have changed.

Exploitative to the nth degree. Do you not have enough money, Taylor?

It’s got to be a drop in the bucket financially. It’s probably mostly driven by record breaking for her and albums sold. You’re a billionaire. You don’t need to put out 15 variants. A regular and a deluxe edition will do just fine.

the difference this time (at least on the vinyl side of things) is that she's splitting the actual music across different variants, whereas folklore, Midnights, and 1989 primarily just had different covers (save for the Target vinyl for 1989 having Sweeter Than Fiction and i guess the Target CD for Midnights). it's much harder to argue that super fans only have one piece of a larger puzzle when it's alternate artwork and a different disc color. it's definitely easier when you have to buy the album multiple times to hear all the music. reminds me of when artists had several retail exclusive bonus tracks spread across Best Buy, iTunes, Walmart, etc. those days have mostly subsided given the rise in streaming.

feels gross that a billionaire who's already guaranteed the top spot on the charts expects people to spend money on multiple copies of an album in the middle of a recession just to somehow top her previous sales. sure, all the songs will eventually be publicly available in the future, but for record collectors, it sucks.
