Truly psychotic shit. Some of the responses made me laugh, though. "The fans can't act like everything is an easter egg and then handwave the symbolism here!" The fans also have a world-historic terrible batting average when it comes to discerning what is an easter egg and what isn't, so...

exactly, if we are using that logic then only 5% of the negative theorys should count, because only 5% of their easter egg guesses pan out

I got a tiktok on my fyp today and it was from a woman of color so I was legit interested in hearing what she had to say but it was the Nazi stuff again. People legit think the line about wanting all the kids on the block to look like him is trying to further the aryan race when it's obviously her being cheeky and being like he's hot and I wanna have his babies.

There's so much legit stuff to criticize rich celebs for, Taylor included, so idk why we have to reach to weird places

Alright I'll bite i think the necklace is kinda weird, as is being right above a hat that reads "PROTECT THE FAMILY". I haven't parasocially attached myself to TS though so ymmv

i did see the necklace thing too. while i don't think it's a good look for someone who hasn't had a great history with being mentioned in conversations about race/Whiteness to sell a necklace that could be interpreted as Nazi symbolism (even if it's meant to be a reference to the lyrics of Opalite), she's clearly not a Nazi.

  6. I refuse to be part of any discourse surrounding Taylor’s eras during release week, hell even release month or more because she’s just so inhumanly big and has such a monopoly on the music landscape that people… just can’t be normal about her anymore. It’s all projection and it comes from all sides at this point. It’s gotten exhausting.

  7. I keep getting recommended Threads posts on IG for the Taylor is MAGA shit and one of them just kept posting pictures of the protect the family or whatever hat next to an ICE hat insinuating it was a similar design and done so on purpose.

please go outside and breathe fresh air or something

I haven’t even seen the necklace, I guess I’ve just missed out on this whole discourse so far (luckily)

Including the Gracie Abrams album and Hannah Montana soundtrack makes that 10x cringier. Those are the only two non Taylor albums worthy enough? I am judging

Taylor has writing credits on both, I believe. I tried to figure it out at first, too.

Singling out merch with the "protect the family" line as a Nazi dogwhistle is so mind-numbingly stupid given that there's a whole song that can give you context for what that line is actually about (her career/masters) and what it's not about (um, the Aryan race?) These people are morons and should take long, long sabbaticals from the internet.

Let’s not forget that first week album sales tend to be an anticipatory reaction to the previous release. Most artists’ best first week comes after their commercial breakthrough when the hype machine is in full effect (e.g. Adele 25). Given the somewhat tepid reaction to TTPD, it’s pretty remarkable where TLOAS landed. She’s a brilliant marketer.

I think Tortured Poets broadly felt more like a shrug than a “disappointment,” and she’s still riding off Eras Tour momentum. Perhaps the engagement announcement in a way helped? lol. Factor in the calculated approach to variants this time, and it does make sense that she was able to push through to that record-breaking first week.

What’ll be interesting to see is, if she doesn’t take a longer break before her next album, will she finally start to lose momentum? Broader talk about her right now is the most mixed-to-negative I’ve seen outside of diehards in I don’t know how long.

With the marketing of this album she also emphasized the complaints people had with TTPD. This one is way shorter and has Max Martin! That excited me personally before I actually heard the album lol

Nah, I still think not working with Jack was the right choice.
