Re: the sales number, that 4 million will always have an asterisk, but from the reporting I've read about one-week sales numbers over the year, it seems like so many of the albums that hit the 1 million and up record do. No Strings Attached and a lot of those other late '90s/early 2000s million sellers always had the "peak of CD bloat/pre-Napster era hubris" asterisk, 25 and all those earlier Taylor albums had the "weren't on streaming" asterisk, Born This Way had the "half of these were discounted to 99 cents on Amazon" asterisk, etc. End of the day, it's a capitalistic achievement that encourages capitalistic maneuvering. What I'll be interested to see it whether it can notch a second million-units week, let alone a third. I highly, highly doubt it, which means there's one superlative Adele has that Taylor will still be chasing.
My favorite albums of hers are Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and evermore. My favorite song on this is the sound of silence as I remove this album from my library, deciding I’ve finally satiated my curiosity with this artist-redefining disaster.
My wife used a string version that as her entrance music during our wedding. Definitely one of "our songs".
Looks like second week sales will drop to 345k per Hits Daily Double, which is kind of a big drop off, but will still put her at #1 again I believe.
I was noticing a trend amongst a lot of my friends that equated to this album/song pairing. Only ones I haven’t encountered yet are Debut/Fearless, so those are guesses. Debut - Opalite Fearless - Opalite Speak Now - Ruin the Friendship Red - Ruin the Friendship 1989 - Opalite (or Honey) Reputation - Elizabeth Taylor (or Wish List) Lover - Honey (or Wood) Folklore - Ruin the Friendship Evermore - Father Figure Midnights - Ophelia TTPD - Ophelia
I saw a thread today where a guy was very earnestly making the case that the lightning bolt necklace Taylor is selling on her website is loaded with Nazi symbols and dog whistles, and I just think these people should seek help.
