The best of TTPD + the best of this new album could have been something special.

I really love almost every song on there, I think there's less skips on the full Anthology for me than most of her other records. It's remarkable how much that album grew on me. I know it's not super popular around here so I'll happily be the resident Tortured Poets fanboy.

Regarding Eldest Daughter, this clip from the Zane Lowe interview is making the rounds online..

    (Sorry for Twitter link)

I have watched this 4 times and I still don’t understand the point she is making. Somehow Zane understands I guess!

I think I understand where she's coming from, and I think it's the same thing @SpyKi was saying a page or two back. But I feel like she almost dampens the impact by going all in on the internet stuff in that first verse, versus maybe using a few disparate examples of trying to seem tough or hardened. Then I think we'd have less of a "wait, is this song about internet bullies?" reaction to that song, which past that verse isn't really about that at all.

I'm revisiting her old stuff before I try and slot this one into a ranking and Speak Now is always the one that hits harder every time I revisit it. The Story of Us is such a banger and Long Live has just had a huge jump up and cracked my top 10.

Notably, "The Black Dog" is also on the second disc of the anthology vinyl, right after "Clara Bow." "imgonnagetyouback" is the opener of disc three, and properly starts the anthology discs.

This is actually growing on me quite a bit. I don't disagree that it's a weaker entry in her catalogue, but it's not a disaster either. The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite, Ruin The Friendship, Wishlist, Honey, and the Life of a Showgirl all completely work for me. I enjoy a lot about Father Figure and Eldest Daughter even if they're held down by some clunkier lyrics. The rest is pretty much fine, with the only true disaster for me being CANCELLED! and the lyrics to Actually Romantic (I enjoy it sonically, but the Charli diss of it all is embarrassing).

I find my Taylor fatigue doesn't actually have anything to do with her at all and is entirely coming from the discourse itself. This album is neither groundbreaking nor a disaster, but everyone seems to think they have to choose one of those two options.

Her explanation of Eldest Daughter in the movie thing was similarly confusing and actually made me less sure of what the song was about than I was before

Zane doesn't understand anything. He's a major label lap dog speaking in superlatives and quasi-AI language buzzwords.

music on Eldest Daughter is fine. don't really care for the lyrics, but it's also not disastrous

Trying to imagine what would have transpired if his response to this had been “I’m going to level with you, Taylor, I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about.”

Certainly not moving a million for three more weeks on top of this one. That Adele record is still somehow more mind blowing than selling 3.5 million during week 1 in 2015 off the back of CDs.

My oldest kid said she hated the new album, but then I just walked in to put her to bed and she was listening to it and now says she loves it minus Wishlist and Elizabeth Taylor.

I guess I should give it a third listen now.
