It is interesting because I swear a long time ago she did an interview talking about wanting her lyrics to feel timeless so not referencing really specific like social media trends and brands and stuff. And I feel like that just completely has gone out the window but I could also be misremembering

This is a legitimate question, but did Adele have multiple versions of her album to break the record? I can't remember off the top of my head and not in a place where I can Google

I definitely remember hearing a lot of people say they were buying the Adele album just to feel a part of History which I don't get. Tbh It's just my own deal but with how expensive life is right now I pretty much only buy the albums of my favorite smaller bands because Miss Swift has enough billions without me.

Obviously it doesn't impact me negatively at all so people can go off and do what makes them happy and buy 600 of them if they want. But it just feels weird in the streaming era to buy the album of a super rich mega star, especially multiple copies of that album.

Though if I collected vinyl I think I would see the appeal

other than different colored variants, i think the only alternate version of 30 was the Target CD with 3 bonus tracks

there isn't a single song on this album that is even remotely close to as good as any of the songs from that kpop demon hunters movie

Everything else aside, the thing I find baffling the most is that Taylor Swift fans are hearing “Ruin The Friendship” and don’t immediately recognize all the hallmarks of what built what’s made her HER for all these years. It’s classic Taylor (and doesn’t fit this album at all).

Absolutely agree, musically and how she tells that story are classic Taylor

She didn't really do the variant game (it was less of a thing then, at least in the mainstream) but the really crucial thing with 25 is that she held it back from streaming services. 21 was also so, so massive, and it took the better part of five years to get a follow-up, so there was a lot of pent-up demand for the new Adele at that point. It all added up to the kind of sales week that seemed impossible, even then.

even Taylor held back Reputation from streaming for a few weeks, iirc. Lover was the first time she dropped it simultaneously as a purchase and on streaming services

“Hello” may be the single most anticipated single of our lifetimes. And it delivered.

    It’s AFI autumn, thanks.

I think that's right. And she hadn't even agreed to put her music on streaming period until 2017, so all those earlier albums benefitted from a similar thing.

Yeah, it's probably either that or "Shake It Off," as the official launch of "pop Taylor."

What even was the last one?

This album release is when I finally saw the comment that connected Forever Winter to this same guy of Ruin the Friendship.

I saw the theater thing and it was…pretty uneventful. There were only 6 people in the theater (4 of which were my party.)

I skipped through like 30 pages of this thread because I haven’t had a chance to listen until today. I played it during a car ride so I didn’t get to read the lyrics along the way, but overall I dug the album. Nothing blew me away, but it kept my attention the entire time. And yes, the second half does take a bit of a dive. Opalite is my initial favorite.

Something else that I personally don't like as much is that she really leans into her whole talk-singing here and overall shows way less range than usual, kinda makes it feel less emotional to me when her singing isn't leading the charge much

It’s so shocking to me to see the negative reaction to this album so centered around the lyrics and depth when a.) Taylor’s lyrics have been mediocre to bad since forever and b.) people (and even many of the same people panning this album) were so hype on Midwest Princess and Brat.

Because Midwest Princess and Brat are both much better albums than this? Hello?

I mean that’s pretty subjective, especially lyrically which I mentioned seems to be the big criticism of showgirl.

  23. This doesn't even sound similar to Chappell and Charli's albums so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make
