    From the same album as

My boyfriend has a big dick
    I really like it
My other boyfriends are not as good
    My old manager was bad
    Money please

    (produced by Brian Eno)

Man it’s ok that there are artists putting out better records than Taylor Swift. It’s not blasphemy to say so.

like I’ve said, I don’t give a shit how many records and tickets she sells. The albums are uneven or mediocre lately and she seems pretty lost to these ears. It’s more of the same. Which will still sell. And that’s fine, but there are people (her peers) putting out better music and it’s ok to talk about that. And guess what? I still like Taylor Swift. Wild how that works.

It’s day one. It’s weird to have final opinions on an album you’ve maybe heard five times.

I truly don't care whether you or anyone else likes this album, but I'll admit it rubs me the wrong way how loaded this thread is with mean-spirited hyperbole and dumb jokey pile-ons about an album that came out TODAY, from people who routinely attack anyone on these forums who posts anything that isn't breathless praise for newly released albums they like. Not hard to see that the knives were out for this one way before anyone in here heard a damn song.

I swear, some of your posts sometimes come across like a total Swiftie doing stan war shit on Twitter, lol.

Some albums can be growers, but like… Even for someone I’ve historically loved at a lot of times in her career, I don’t think it’s that wild to be sour enough on initial listens to be like, yeah, I don’t think this works. Especially for a pop album, I don’t think I need dozens of listens across multiple weeks to have an opinion.

Every single one of us has listened to an album only once and known they don't like it and that's ok

Love all these gatekeepers telling me when I can start discussing my thoughts on a record. How dare we discuss our initial thoughts on a record that came out today.

I know they are trying to accomplish two different things, but Hayley releasing maybe the best album of her career this year highlights what a low point this is for Taylor.

Please explain. Because a handful of people in the thread think the record is sub par after a handful of listens?

that’s literally why these forums exist. To have opinions on music. If it wasn’t then we should close the thread until the powers at be decide it’s been long enough for us to sit on the record and develop appropriate opinions about it.

I'm sorry but your being a little high horsey here. I had high hopes for this album and there's a lot I don't like about it after listening multiple times, and I'm going to poke fun at the worst parts of it because it's funny

I’ve not articulated it well, but I’m thinking of it more like this. And I’m saying this as someone who would at the moment give this album a C+ at best.

I listened to Midnights on my run this morning and realized “Snow At The Beach” and “Question…?” were better songs than I ever really gave them credit for. It’s been years since that record came out.

If a new album by a favorite artist of yours doesn’t hit right away, do you just write it off? Or do you revisit and give it a chance to grow because the artist has earned your trust?

Many albums I didn’t like immediately have become all time favorites. Sure, there are also immediate favorites (Red-1989-Rep and Folklore to be thread relevant), but I didn’t love Fearless until almost ten years after it came out.

Kinda wild how distinct each album of hers was for me up until like evermore. And that was before she put so much emphasis on "eras." Each album was so varied and distinct. While I know she has some variation in her catalog and maybe it's unfair of me, I feel like I'll be able to rattle off all her songs and trivia except for the last few albums which will probably all be lumped in as "midnight tortured showgirl."

Don't worry, I'll listen to this a thousand times, and songs will definitely grow on me and my feelings will definitely evolve

But eldest daughter and almost romantic are never going to get better lyrics

Going to quote this post from Jason in here, from the Sabrina Carpenter thread, because it says exactly what I feel like is happening in here:

I'm actually in the more negative camp on that Sabrina album, but I thought it was a good point. Some threads just snowball, with posters trying to one-up the last person on how outlandish or profane or "funny" their put-down of an album can be. I find that exhausting. I don't think that's exclusively what's happening in here; there have plenty of good faith criticisms. I've been mixed on the album, and have said so. But "this sucks shit," or "this sounds like coworker music," or "this sounds like AI" are, IMO, not adding any value to this thread, and feel like they're just zingers people are coming in to drop so they can get a few quick likes. 4Chan shit.

After my few listens today, Eldest Daughter is a huge miss for me. I just got a text from a friend that it made her sob driving down the road. I think as Taylor continues to be at such a gigantic presence, many of her albums will feel fractured as different parts will mean things to different people.

Actually Romantic gets better with every listen for me, haha. I love the way the music builds.
