His ability to slice through all the typical music writer bullshit is honestly inspiring.

Now I'm trying to think of artists who could reasonably be described as having "more juice" than Taylor Swift since, like, 2010. Is the complete list "Adele"?

I've done another listen through, I stand by how I feel about how the album sounds vs the expectations that were set with both producers and imagery.

I really like the opener this time round. I think it is probably the standout song overall. There are a lot of good music here (the title track, honey, cancelled).

I think my biggest criticism is still that too much of it reminds me of other stuff she's done and instantly makes me want to go listen to that. Elizabeth Taylor and Cancelled both remind me of the vibes that TTPD gave, especially live on Eras tour. Cancelled continues the guitar work of Clara Bow and musically is actually pretty good but lyrically a mess. Father Figure chorus, I just can't get the cadence of 'Mastermind' out of my head when shes singing and I think its quite similar. Wish List hits the same vibe of reminding me of Midnights (Midnight Rain I think). Ruin The Friendship and the title track both vibe in folklore territory. Wood sounds like Ariana Grande could be singing that chorus which isn't surprising considering Martin's work on Eternal Sunshine.

All of this I think links back to my initial mention, why am I getting such specific references to 3 of the last 4 albums when Max Martin and Shellback provided production on all tracks and had no involvement in those albums? This started on TTPD but I put that down to there being 30 songs so its easy to tread on similarities when working with the same production team but I hoped the concise tracklist (for her) and concise runtime (again, for her) would've tackled a lot of the concerns but I am concerned.

I’m an extremely casual fan who hasn’t really liked anything she’s done since Reputation outside of a random song or two. That said, I was definitely hopeful for a return to some BANGERS like a Ready For It or I Did Something Bad here and am disappointed nothing really hits that way. Elizabeth Taylor comes closest I guess.

    I disagree.

I’m going to see Geese in 2 weeks at Thalia Hall. They have more juice than U2 right now and U2 could sell out multiple nights at MSG. I don’t care about ticket sales from legacy acts, which is what TS is turning into. She’s put out a handful of mediocre albums and hasn’t put out anything truly worthwhile since 2020. That’s a lifetime ago in the music world. Doesn’t matter to me how many loyal swifties sell out her shows or buy her records. The juice is who is making new and exciting music and is on an upward trajectory. I want new and exciting. Taylor Swift is old hat.

  9. I had to look up if "legitly" was something people actually say, or if that was a "funny" Max Martin grammatical error thing like "Now I know who I really are" from "Break Free" by Ariana Grande.

Respectfully, that comparison is insane. U2 is a legacy rock act that hasn't made an album in eight years. Taylor Swift has the top selling albums for four of the five years this decade so far, and will almost certainly add a fifth to that list. Your subjective *opinion* of who has "creative" juice is trumped by the objective fact of who has commercial juice, and there is no evidence that she's not still at the top of that list.

It’s absolutely subjective. And I see no signs of creative juices flowing from the Swift camp. Her contemporaries are passing her by.

I left the screening during “Wish List” because I got the gist and I didn’t listen to this whole album again. People clapped after every song and seemed pretty enthused and honestly, happy for them that people can sit in a theater have some kind of fun reaction.

It was very much a fan event and Taylor worship. I can’t see another one like that doing that well. I could see like an intimate concert stream like she did for “Red.” But it got old just watching video loops with lyrics.

Taylor also gave a description for each song and basically said “Actually Romantic” is about someone that hates you and (paraphrasing) puts so much energy into hating you and that just seems weird if the Charli song is the whole reason for that. Guess we’ll never know!

I was talking to my mom about the album last night and came to a nerdy connection that the Eras tour was much like Avengers Endgame. These massive moments that have been building for years and years but also felt like good end points. And I made a comparison to post-Endgame Marvel and post-Eras Taylor

I love Charli, but she is also a person that loves or loved known piece of shit Dasha Nekrasova, enough that she wrote “Mean Girls” about her, so like, I wouldn’t past her. But still, this song is punching down so hard.
