i remember the HUGE push for Sucker when it came out, only for it to not even crack the top 20 in the US. even with Fancy and I Love It also her belt, some people really didn't care until she leaned into hyperpop, and most people jumped on with Brat. i've been here since Superlove so seeing her get her flowers last year was great, but she's never gonna have the household recognition Taylor has without pandering to the masses a little bit (something she's never really done but toyed with a tiny bit on Crash).

“Desperate” is also a fair description.

How confirmed is it that "Actually Romantic" is a diss at Charli? I mean it's right there but idk

I don't know that it's been confirmed or anything, but I feel like it's pretty undeniable. And as someone else in here said, she didn't have to do it--pretty lame and gross

    Opener is good
    Elizabeth is boring
Opalite is good. Sounds like a Sabrina song
Father Figure has that dumb whisper sing talk bullshit that she's been doing. This stinks
What are the lyrics on Eldest Daughter??? I actually like the melody a lot but that first verse/chorus stink
    Ruin the Friendship is good.

Two listens in and this is pretty easily my favorite Taylor album since evermore and maybe even folklore. Folks are overreacting to this Charli song.

Rather than focus on 'Actually Romantic' being lame, I'm going to remember how funny it is that she'd diss Charli, one of the most exciting pop artists in the past 10+ years, via the most boring song on the album. Good bit.

I like every about Actually Romantic except for the lyrics and the message therein. Fucking trash.

Actually Romantic is pretty catchy, some bad lyrics aside. Not really something to pearl clutch over imo.
Wish List sounds like Reputation. Where the fuck are the big pop choruses on this thing. Did she forget how to belt out a fucking banger? Ambien ass music throughout most of this record.

Wood with a Jackson 5 sample???? This is good. Very funny to sample a children's love song to talk about Travis Kelce's big hard cock

Here's the super cringey Rolling Stone review, for anyone hitting the paywall. Can't believe Rob Sheffield didn't write this.

Every song here, even the ones I like, sound like an alt version of a song she has written before.

  21. i liked ophelia. i was liking ruin the friendship but i found the turn at the end…kind of in bad taste

I've felt that way about a significant amount of her post pandemic output (vault tracks included). Short her taking a very sharp creative turn, idk how you'd avoid that when you release this much music over such a short period of time.

This is a complete miss for me, cringey at points and straight up bad at other points. This continues the trend of me not enjoying anything since folklore/evermore. I hope that some people enjoy it though, it's just not for me.

    time is happening…..

I'm having a hard time imagining choosing to include the diss track when this album is such a snoozefest and the artist that you're "beefing" with released an album that has completely shifted the culture in a way that Taylor Swift hasn't since...I don't know, maybe Folklore?

Anyway, back to Silver Bleeds The Black Sun...

  25. i honestly really liked ttpd and have returned to it a lot. this feels like a drop off even from that. better opener tho
