It's very interesting because I think fans have wanted that big pop comeback so bad but probably will never get it

The more I listen, it’s solidifying that the first half is pretty great and then it just falls off a cliff. I had high hopes for the closing track with Sabrina and even that is pretty boring. “Clara Bow”’ is an infinitely better song about the same subject.

I can't quite wrap my head around how making this album was so exciting to her, because it kind of just feels like more of the same to me? It's weird that there is so much demand for her to return to big-tent pop, or to return to country, or to try something new like a big rock album, and instead she just keeps making Midnights.

Maybe she sees it simply as a marketing opportunity, that she spent so much time making an album with Max again, that regardless of quality, she had to release it

Very disappointing to hear there isn’t much of a stylistic change on this. Her recent schtick has worn so thin

Yeah, her kind of flat delivery on this is everything I don’t like about Midnights or TTPD. She has so much personality and it feels like it’s just not been there in her past couple of albums.

And for all my complaints about Jack, he went on to work on that Doja Cat album that has a ton of charisma and great beats. Just can’t win.

  7. I was just peeping the Charli reactions and I don't post in here so forgive me if it's been addressed, but hasn't part of the marketing also been that The Life of a Showgirl isn't all it's cracked up to be? So maybe it makes sense for some of it to feel brooding or midtempo as opposed to maximalist pop?

“Wood” is definitely the “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart” of this - the one bombastic pop song that will surely be played like crazy.

She could have simply made a better album!

Yes, it definitely feels like there is some of that.

"Wood" is the "House Tour" of this album, in the parlance of another recent pop album that didn't quite get there for me.

Someone will eventually write a great book about the boring pop albums from this era that were supposed to be awesome blockbusters. The Spotify background music era and its flattening effect on pop.

Finally found a good quality version. Loving the chorus on The Fate of Ophelia.

Definitely hear the issues on it being more of the same but i actually enjoyed the first listen a good bit (Charli diss aside)

People owe Antonoff an apology if this album doesn’t sound all that different than the last few. Especially considering the other production he’s done since TPPD, even his work with Sabrina. If this album had anything that sounded at all like House Tour or When Did You Get Hot, we’d all be losing our minds.

Wow it's almost like the artist gets to lead the creative direction of their own album

Eldest Daughter and Ruin the Friendship are both lovely, really love how the latter progresses.

Jack's work has been brilliant on the last two Taylor records, she just doesn't seem interested in making the kind of music most people seem to want from her.

I'm only halfway through but so far the production on here stands out to me less than TTPD or Midnights but I really love how those albums sound.

I haven't listened to this yet, but I definitely expected it to be more of the woes and lows of Life of a showgirl but expected upbeat songs like I can do it with a broken heart which encapsulates what I expect this album to be thematically based off her lil motif

Girl just can't write a diss track and I can appreciate the effort but it just never comes across natural. She has stated that she is not edgy and that is fine but every time she does a diss track I feel like it says more about her insecurity. she's trying to put on this persona for them that feels inauthentic and so it comes across as really corny and performative

I learned I have high blood pressure yesterday. Inviting people to potentially double down on bad Jack Antonoff takes directly at me didn’t feel healthy.

Actually Romantic is definitely my least favourite so far, kind of reminds me of London Boy a bit oddly enough.
