Verdict(s):
7s - some of these (especially "Question...?" and "Breathe") are nicer than I think the general consensus gives them credit for. still, not a lot of magic here. those last five are all at the very bottom of her discography for me, which tanks the whole track in my rankings.

8s - oof. "august" is single-handedly saving this from being in the bottom tier with 7s. man that composition is incredible.

9s - now we're talking! "this is me trying" belongs in the conversation with Tay's most underrated songs. "Guilty As Sin?" is a really solid song that as a positive easter egg also references one of my favorite albums (Hats), but in a rare moment (for TSwizz at least) is almost wrecked by the bridge. there's also some really fun singalong singles in the middle there, but those last three songs are the kind of writing that makes me cringe.

10s - no huge standout songs (give or take "DBATC") is consigning this to middle of the pack. I love how sneakily emotional some of these songs are, especially "ivy" and "King of My Heart". "King Of My Heart" in particular is something that could be one of my favorite Taylor songs, but it has that blegh prechorus about the American queen and Motown beat over that squelchy drop. "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" is a song that I've watched a room full of women over-dramatically enjoy at full blast and while I'm happy for them it really laid the ridiculousness of the song bare -- it's actually the song I'm most worried about The Life of a Showgirl emulating because of how theatrical it is.

Very very lame that there’s allegedly a Charli diss track on here if it’s true. Charli’s song didn’t even say anything bad about her, it was more just saying she felt insecure and hurt by her….so she goes and makes a song twisting the knife more ? Cool

 

yeah, it's really petty and dumb. i could see her being upset if maybe Charli said things behind closed doors that the public doesn't know about, but to then respond to it in a song you're publicly releasing to the world is really stupid
