I think there's some sort of contractual obligation that's keeping their partnership intact. So far she's only given Target the standard vinyl and some CD variants that I'm pretty sure were available from her directly as well. I too hope this deal ends soon. It would've been good PR for her to cut ties publicly, but lawyers and money.

 

Yeah, that's my guess as well. Curious what that deal looks like, how long it lasts, when it was renewed most recently, etc. Even aside from the optics/PR, Target just seems to be in the shitter at the moment. I have to imagine the Taylor camp wasn't thrilled about having to give them anything.

 

yeah, i don't think i've shopped at Target since the beginning of this year in light of their shittiness. it might've been different for this album if a Target variant had bonus tracks (and even then i'd probably buy it from a third-party seller), but if there are only 12 songs, it makes no sense to buy it from Target unless you just want that different cover/variant and/or just don't care about where your money goes. if i pick it up, it'll probably just be the standard variant at this point (which will obviously be everywhere).

 

looks like we're back to selling iTunes exclusives. digital variant comes with a different cover and a 3 minute video of her explaining some of her inspirations behind the album (for some reason it's linking to the Apple Music embed, but the content is only available via an iTunes purchase)

 

Honestly, I would be kind of surprised if Taylor cared enough about the Target stuff to cut ties with them.

 

New countdown on her website but it’s a progress bar this time and will reveal a “countdown page clip” when filled (not sure what that means)

 

i'm assuming it'll be a clip from a music video (without any actual music in it)

 

she's just out there inventing new things

My sister is on a cross country flight and paranoid she'll miss it.
