I honestly think that TTPD proper (disc one) kinda gets overlooked because of how massive the whole set is, but that first disc minus a couple tracks is REALLY strong
Yeah, I think all of the following can be true: 1) TTPD proper is at minimum mostly good 2) it sounds a lot like elements from Midnights, Folklore, and Evermore 3) At least two of those albums are objectively better 4) If it had been released at any point other than 4th of those 4 it would have a much more celebrated reputation today
The TLOAS>TTPD discourse is interesting because I agree but my ‘1 good song’ is different than everyone else’s (The Prophecy) but I assume our ‘4 good songs’ are all pretty similar
Just for clarity, we're only saying TLOAS is better than Anthology, the second disc, not the whole double disc set. Edit: I think you are too though
I think this decade has very easily been the strongest part of her career and my appreciation for the last few albums and her catalogue as a whole only continues to grow. I'm glad I get to see so many people outside of this site who rightfully see TTPD as the masterpiece it is.
I commend your dedication to your odd options and being the only person to claim loml as her singular best song ever
I've actually seen a lot of people who think that. I don't use TikTok much but the most liked comment I ever made on there was on some Taylor Swift blind ranking video where that song was the first option and I said it's number 1 without even needing to know the rest.
TTPD has higher highs than TLOAS, but overall, even before including Anthology, it’s probably my least favorite in her entire discography as a work at this point. But the lowest lows of TLOAS aren’t lower than the lowest lows of TPPD/Anthology for me.
Wow the anthology slander is crazy!! How Did It End and Clara Bow are top tier Taylor song but I do agree that the core album is better than it gets credit for. I’d take out the title track and I Can Do It… and swap it for those two.
Yeah, I’d definitely rather listen to Showgirl than Poets. Poets has stronger highlights, but lyrically, it has become largely insufferable to me with time. Some very "first-year English major bullshit" going on with that album, IMO. Self-titled will always probably be at the bottom of my rankings, because outside of a few tracks, it just feels like a faceless mid-2000s major label country album to me. But Poets is right at the bottom with it.
Her movie songs have thus far left something to be desired, but that combo could be cool. Seems to promise a return to country?
