Honestly, her silence and their using her music in propaganda appeals to someone like Trump whose primary goal in life is winning and dominance. Just like the MAGA revolving door allows previously considered enemies to make their way under the umbrella when opportunism rears it's head - that's what is happening here. They know her impact on the youth and on women and her silence teaches other young people and women that silence is okay and encouraged in MAGAland.

To just kind of add to all these thoughts, it feels like what Sydney Sweeney said in that dumb, smug interview - when there’s an issue she feels passionate about to speak up on, she will. And clearly the dismantling of democracy, human rights and American education is not enough for her to use her platform for, despite using it before.

Hearing Opalite on the radio today made me wonder why that wasn't the first single. Would've been a nice one imo. Obviously Ophelia is killing it, but I feel like Opalite captures the albums theme and vibe of finding love and blah blah and is pleasant. Not that Ophelia isn't pleasant. But Opalite is pleasant in a v "I can hear this on the radio a lot before I get sick of it" way

The honest answer to that I think is because of her constant desire to be perceived as some as a poetic icon and literary genius. She ham fists a lot of this stuff into her songs in an effort to shape her public perception. She wants people on TikTok dissecting “OMG what a GENIUS she wants to be SAVED from the FATE of Ophelia.” It’s all about controlling how she’s being talked about.

Yeah but this is also the person who released a song with the line “Hey kids, spelling is fun!” as a lead single.

tell that to the guy who played a solo acoustic version of it at a cidery i went to a few years ago. just a string of generic acoustic songs on his guitar, and then suddenly Taylor Swift. hit me like a truck. of all the songs of hers he could've played, he chose her worst.

It is so funny to me that she went back in and removed it. Really thought she had something there.

I feel like you could pinpoint that as the exact moment she decided she wanted to be seen as poetic

I feel like her wanting to be perceived as "your favorite English teacher" is more of a recent thing. Like her knowing Aristotle while Travis balls lmao.

Lol reminds me of how Michelle Zauner tried to talk to Taylor about if Invisible String was inspired by Hemingway and Taylor just went "Okay, English major!"

I hear three songs of hers at work: Welcome To New York, Me (spelling version) and Sparks Fly

One of those songs is good

Why are we shocked she didn’t speak up against Trump when she’s hanging out with Brittany Mahomes? Her circle is very Trump-coded (Travis’ too, most NFL players are pro-Trump it seems, money matters) and and it’s fair to assume she might just be ok with it all in an attempt to market herself to everyone.

Again, thats all conjecture…but I just don’t think she’s ever going to have the spirit to take on social issues like Madonna did or even a contemporary like Billie.

Listening to queen Hilary duff and WTF does Taylor ever cite her as an influence? How did I not clock that she's lifted her lyrics

While there’s much to be said about the NFL being a cesspool and how Taylor’s relationship with Travis has maybe shifted her values in a direction a lot of us don’t love, making any “conjecture” about her current political standing based on the fact that she occasionally “hangs out” with her boyfriend’s teammate and his wife is…a reach.

    Not newbie, I think

Travis is and always has been very anti- Trump, though not loud about it. He kneeled with Kaepernick. Supported Covid vaccines. Liked pro Harris stuff on insta.

I just think these people are in the lot of nobody wants to hear celebs stance on politics and they are tired of it becoming front page news. Right or wrong. Nor do I think their opinions make much impact at this point.

wealth and sociopolitical privilege grant the elite immunity from thinking that they have to call out the company they keep for their shitty beliefs. when you're not directly impacted by fascism, you have the liberty of calling those beliefs "differences of opinion", a privilege millions of people don't have.

Yeah, but also maybe there are just some aspects of life where she’s a normal person and just hangs around people she finds enjoyable and they just don’t talk politics?

I think the overwhelming majority of people, privileged and not, don’t view life through a constant political lens.
