Honey is def an earworm. The "but yoooou touch my faaaace" part is so pleasant. Hope that ends up a single
Also I know she's not leaning into the showgirl theme as much as people expected sound wise but it would be so fun if she did a jazzy showgirl remix of a song kinda like how Britney did for BOMT on Onyx Hotel
Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” era continues as the record notches a third straight week at No. 1 with 194,000 equivalent album units earned, according to Luminate. The 12-song record shows no signs of slowing down — it’s only the second album of 2025 to spend its first three weeks atop the chart, following Morgan Wallen’s “I’m the Problem,” which held the position for first eight weeks.
Got extremely personal for Taylor Swift week of My Life In 35 Songs, about how those two 2020 albums got me through the pandemic, and about "evermore," a song that hit me exactly when I needed it to. My Life In 35 Songs, Track 32: “evermore” by Taylor Swift
Thank you for being so vulnerable in this writing. I know I don't post super often, but I always look forward to reading your stuff!
RE: this album; I’ve never forgotten / fallen off of a Taylor album faster. There’s just not much to chew on. No one make a wood comment.
This is really bottom of the barrel here CD singles with Ophelia and the instrumental version or acoustic and acoustic instrumental: Taylor Swift Official Online Store
I just wish it was organic. If people are listening to the song enough and enjoying it then it lands #1 and if not and it lands #2, #3, etc. then so be it, that’s still good! I feel like if you have to put out these sales techniques then you don’t have faith in your song being good enough or care more about the chart placement than the music, which is what it should all be about (the music). I don’t follow Alex Warren, and I think Ordinary is just okay/borderline annoying, but he didn’t do any of these sales techniques to ensure his song stayed #1 (as far as I know), it just happened naturally/organically and I respect that.
Yeah the charts should be showing what people are listening to, not what they're buying multiple versions of
I'm sure there's all types of stuff that happens behind the scenes that get songs higher up on the charts I'll never know about. But it's fun when it's a sleeper hit or feels organic. Like willow hit #1. I like willow a lot. I never in my life hear anyone talk about it when discussing big Taylor songs. Some of her past songs may not have hit #1 but feel like more iconic Taylor songs than some that did hit #1 in the latter part of her career because of this.
“Organic” is an interesting idea around charts and all that throughout music history, lots of “tricks” used in the industry going back to the 60’s at least.
I think you’re misunderstanding why “Ordinary” is number one too. There’s so much passive consumption of music driven by streaming algorithms that I’m not entirely sure how we’re supposed to judge what’s the most liked songs in the US. I have empathy for Billboard in that regard, even if their recent rule changes seem kind of ridiculous to me.
