I don't think you can say you can "guarantee" he doesn't do that with men. He's said a lot of shit about male artists too. The whole Blur and Oasis feud is pretty infamous.

Damon's an incredibly talented artist, but he also says some incredibly stupid shit.

He's very much a type of person who thinks his views on art/music are right and others aren't.

Bums me out because a Gorillaz song with Taylor would have been awesome.

  3. Okay, fair. I can't guarantee he doesn't say that shit about men when he dislikes them.

Doesn't change the fact that this was still rooted in misogyny. Misogyny and "incredibly stupid shit" are very frequently synonymous.

I wouldn’t say it’s misogyny but more ignorance. Pretty typical of British artists to slag on others that are just more so performers than songwriters. Now Taylor is a little different and has written some of her own songs, and I used to get hung up on the whole they don’t write their own songs and that’s losing perspective. Great music is great music. It just sucks Taylor is having to go through the Springsteen/Billyjoel song rights case. The last ditch effort of major labels to throw their weight around.

  5. ...uhhh, okay. The bolded is a pretty weird line.

As to the rest, you're free to feel that way! I would still say it's misogyny.

edit; also, misogyny and ignorance are not contradictions of each other.

Lol, “has written some of her own songs.” What song of hers did she not write?

"Twist and Shout", "Long Tall Sally", "Rock and Roll Music"...oh wait, shit, that's The Beatles. Nevermind.

Also to say that she may be “more of a performer than a songwriter” is hilarious considering over the past 2 years she’s put out 4 full albums and performed for a total of like 17 minutes

Is this when we finally have a conversation as a society about the ways women are treated (or talked about) in the music industry versus men? The tweet above touches on this but I hope this sparks a conversation. Because I feel that while Taylor was able to speak out and rightfully publicly drag Damon for his words (and has a large enough platform for it to make waves instantly), a lot of musicians who face criticism like Taylor did (or something similar/worse) don’t have a big enough platform where they can speak out about men tarnishing their capabilities.

    I do not exist.

It’s also the way men and the industry play women off against each other to keep them down. In this situation referencing Bilie Eilish and Taylor Swift and unnecessarily comparing them, criticising one over the other, it all reinforces the patriarchal framework where we now have to compare the two - we’re led to believe that we have to rank one above the other. We can’t, god forbid, have two successful women. We have to drag one down, to put one on a pedestal above the other. We can’t allow women to share space at the top. We take away their agency. Her co-writes are illegitimate. Her co-writes are the right style. It’s infuriating when you take time to see.

    Tear it all down.

Speaking as a fan of Albarn's work, it's really disappointing that he said the dumb, misogynistic shit he did because I really feel like Gorillaz is a pretty wide-spanning, inclusive group that features artists of all different backgrounds, genders and genres. Like, I love that there's an album that has both Mavis and Vince Staples and can jump from Carly Simon to Kilo Kish. I guess it's not surprising that a successful, old white guy has dated, cranky views. Just judging him off of his music (I don't think I've read many interviews with him), I guess I was hoping he'd be better than that.

Well, here is some more information. The "rumor" started with a blind on DeuxMoi about an A+ singer announcing a stadium tour this Friday, and then DeuxMoi said they were going to talk about it on their podcast. Well, the podcast just dropped and they confirmed that the blind was about Taylor so we'll see. (The rest of the clip is talking about how Taylor is secretly engaged to Joe, it's just the beginning part that discusses the tour)

I don't know if this is the same info the above user knows, probably not since they mentioned a specific city, but regardless. It's something.
