I thought Taylor was gonna be able to do 1 million total sales. Happy for her that ATW got to #1

 

So Billboard is saying that Taylor set the record for "longest song to appear on and top the Hot 100" which I am finding a bit strange.

So as we know... remixes and alternate versions are counted as the same song for Billboard...

The Weekend - Save Your Tears and The Weeknd ft. Ariana Grande - Save Your Tears (Remix) are counted toward the same single entry.

What charted today is "All Too Well (Taylor's Version)" which includes 10 minute version and long pond session. Strangely it doesn't include All Too Well (original), which I don't totally understand... but here we are.

So with this logic, if Adele releases a 20-minute version of Easy On Me, it will automatically become the new longest song after just one stream? Or any song that is ever #1 can release a version of any length longer than Taylor and it sets the new record?

I know Billboard is historically flimsy with rules, but this seems egregious

 

I can’t remember where but I read that something like 58% of the total activity was for the long version so it was the dominant version which is why it counts in this case. I imagine it’s similar metrics to whatever they use to determine if a guest artist on a remix gets credit or not

The re-recordings are causing my little sister to discover Taylor's catalog for the first time which is exciting. She's obviously heard the big singles but not really her full albums until now so it's fun hearing her discover them

 

I need that as a full version on streaming services immediately.

 

I hope this is a hint that an Evermore pond sessions is coming someday.

 

In this same vein, having my sister experience her first serious relationship as a young adult fall apart and show her Clean was neat. I mean not the traumatic breakup part lol but to know the song is resonating with her and giving her something to relate to, and that it is assisting in our bond too. So far 80% of our relationship is about Taylor swift and one direction/Harry styles lol
