Didn’t someone float the idea that Silk Sonic might challenge for number 1?

 

Whenever the release dates for both albums were both announced as 11/12, I for a hot second thought Silk Sonic might have a shot at number 1. But that was mainly because at the time there was zero promo being done for Red, not even a pre release single. It made me think that she went big for Fearless and was just gonna put the rest of the TVs out without much marketing.

Then the short film, SNL performance, multiple late night interviews etc started flooding in haha. Plus it helped that the Vault songs were so damn good and IMO have a much broader appeal and higher replay value than the Fearless ones.
Eventually was expecting Silk Sonic to hit number 2, but even so 102k seemed low for them.

 

If they had had their album ready and had pre orders up when they released their first single, the album would have done way better, for sure.

I thought it was a mitten/glove, but now that I realize it's in a picture with other kitchen items, it has to be an oven mitt, hahaha. Wish there was a white mitten like that sold though

 

Haha yeah. The oven mitt and pot holder were for sale this morning but I guess they must have sold out cuz I don’t see either of them on the site anymore. Sorry you couldn’t get two oven mitts to use as gloves this winter… haha :)

and this is neither here nor there but one of my best friends got engaged to it a couple of years ago right after it came out and even my cynical ass shed a tear watching the video. what a great song.

 

Also it's nearly impossible to create a new "holiday classic," so many artists have tried and almost no one has succeeded

 

Most holiday originals lean so heavily on cliches and worn out “Christmas-y” melodies that they’re hardly even passable for casual listening, let alone revisiting year after year.

 

I think the latest Christmas song that could be considered a new Christmas standard is probably Kelly Clarkson's "Underneath The Tree."

 

yep yep yep. Overall I'm pretty burnt out on holiday music, but I still make it a point to make myself a 20-song mix each year of new holiday songs that I can throw on each year, and I definitely try hard to use songs that are originals or feel the least cliche

 

I would definitely agree. The originals on that album are all amazing, she was really firing on all cylinders there.

 

Kacey's is really the only recent Christmas album where I like the originals as much as the standards.

 

Truth be told there have been a lot of really good Chrismas songs released in the past couple of years. They just can't break through from the usual 15-20 standards.
