    I like Lover but it's her most basic album tbh

    It could lose 3 or 4 meh-to-bad songs, but it has so many favorites of mine. Definitely one of her top albums imo

    Absolute bottom, completely forgettable and okay with that tour being cancelled since it gave us two amazing albums.

  5. I’d want to keep 1/4 or maybe 1/3 of the songs. The rest are mehhhh. Lover and Reputation are the only TS albums that I can’t ever get through. I always just end up getting to “Cruel Summer” and then I just replay the “he looks up grinning like the devil” screamy part over and over and over and over because it’s a top 10 TS moment.

    Lover would have been an amazing 13-song album. It's just extremely bloated and scattershot, and not in a super interesting way. I still like it more than Reputation, though.

    The highs on lover (False God, Death By A Thousand Cuts, Cornelia.... etc) are the opposite of basic, they are maybe her most creative and out of the box. But the worst are definitely basic as fuck (London Boy, Me)

    Lover has settled in as my second least favorite of hers. (As I’ve established before, my unpopular pick for least fav is Speak Now.) “The Archer” is in my top tier of all Taylor songs, and there are a few others I’ll go back to occasionally, but I literally can’t remember half the album offhand.

    Reputation, on the other hand, rounds out my definitive Top 4 that I listen to a ton these days.

    i'm honestly glad people find Lover to be lower-tier. as much as i enjoy a handful of songs, every time i listen I just get frustrated. i actually dug reputation, so this felt like a major step backwards.

    these are exactly my thoughts.. and I definitely felt alone when it came out and everyone seemed to love it. Folklore and evermore more than made up for it for me

    I very strongly disagree with the sentiment about Lover being a bad album. These people said if better than me
    -->
    but I would add that it feels to me like she hedged her bets and pulled back from completely committing to the idea of the album by dropping a few radio-friendly tracks into an otherwise pretty cohesive set of songs. With folklore & evermore she completely went for the concept, and the results speak for themselves.

    There is a huge discrepancy between the highs and lows, but the highs really are insanely high. Lover (the song) and False God are both creatively inspired tracks where she goes way out of her wheelhouse to awesome effect. Even songs like Cornelia Street and Soon You'll Get Better, while not breaking any insanely new ground for her musically or creatively, are just very good songs from one of the best people in the game right now.

    As Craig sorta pointed out, a 12 or 13 track version of Lover absolutely goes toe-to-toe with both folklore & evermore all day every day.

    It's interesting, because I think 1989 would be a tad better if you add the three bonus tracks to the tracklist, but Lover is significantly worse because she didn't leave some of those as b-sides.

    First like 9-10 songs on Lover are almost universally great, it’s just a shame that in the entire second half of the album the only above average song is False God.

    I agree with this for the most part and tbh even looking at this I'm surprised by how many songs the album has because so many aren't memorable to me and I forget they're on there. I actually liked Lover more when it was released than I do now I think. It just never settled into her catalog for me.

    Part of me hopes that the success of folklore and evermore showed her she doesn't need corny songs like Me to be successful, but then the other part of me thinks that Taylor is just corny herself and genuinely enjoys making songs like that so we'll see more in the future lol

    I very much think Taylor has a corny side and it’s a big part of her overall charm. But some songs are just a bit much.
