I get this kind of push for first week tbh but I don’t really see what she gains by having it number 1 for a second week. Also 25k is a pretty big gap to close so I feel like she would’ve had it anyway.

honestly if she wants to advertise another version of the album to boost sales, she should have one with Sweeter Than Fiction. i have a reasonable vinyl rip for now, but it'd be nice to have a source file.

My (joking) beef about the Blink situation was that I did all this work to add the two songs to the original album in Apple Music so I'd keep the listening stats on the original album. Then they dropped it on streaming anyways and downloading that version messed up my stats, so now I have this album in my top 5 of the year twice LOL. I should've just left it alone, but I complicated the shit out of it. Lesson learned. Of course I had no issue purchasing that third copy cause I wanted Blink to get that #1 album.

 

My maybe not so hot take is that all the chart chasing and pushes with limited editions of things or alternative versions of songs or things of the like is a bit annoying at this point when she’s already cemented her legacy in music and has more money than anyone could ever imagine.

Even if she doesn’t remain #1 she’s still getting ridiculous streaming numbers and physical sales and is constantly in the news between the re-recordings, Travis Kelce relationship, and the tour. It’s not like she would be losing any relevancy if she doesn’t get the #1 again.

Also while no one is forced to buy anything her team definitely does use deceptive marketing to entice fans to buy things, especially under the guise they are limited. Which sure, the point of a record label is to get people to buy stuff from an artist but is it REALLY necessary with Taylor?

 

I’d go one step further with your hot take and say it feels a tad predatory at this point, especially since there have been so many articles written about how young pop stans feel duty-bound to buy everything. The false sense of scarcity thing they’re doing with these “8 hours only” drops feels particularly icky to me.
