No recording artist has ever won four Album of the Year awards before. Fearless, 1989, and folklore all felt worthy of the award and like distinct accomplishments where Taylor brought something very new to the table for herself as an artist.

Midnights does not do that, in my opinion, so I’d hope another artist can get some recognition this year, and when she inevitably does reinvent herself in a more impactful way, she can perhaps break the record then (pending that year’s competition).

I can definitely see them going the safe route with Midnights, but like you said they love to do weird shit. I can totally see them throw a curveball and give Jon Batiste a second album of the year win, shock the world by giving indie rock some love with boygenius, or give it to a legacy rock act like Foo Fighters, which would be a bittersweet moment.

Considering how much I listen to Midnights regularly, I still think she has at least 7 albums better than it so I kinda hope it doesn’t get AOTY.

Yeah that too. I don’t even think Midnights is the better of Taylor’s two releases this eligibility period. I’d take Speak Now (TV) over Midnights.

I’d love to see the Grammy’s prove they aren’t out of touch by awarding SZA. I just have such little faith in their voting body.

There’s also no artist who has ever had a year like this. I really can’t see a feasible second choice. Foos would be great, but I think we are past the point where any rock artist is going to win.

That’s a fact. But this ultimately is not an award for Artist of the Year. That award should exist though considering Best New Artist exists, and in that case Taylor would be a lock. If voters look at it as Artist of the Year currently then they should rename the category.

Taylor owned 2023 and was deservedly rewarded for doing so by becoming a billionaire and more famous/respected than ever. Does she really need another Album of the Year award on top of every other incredible thing she accomplished this year for a damn good album, but one that arguably ranks in the bottom half of her discography?

In my opinion, it would just delegitimize the award and the album as an art form if voters take this specific award and use it as a way to honor an artist’s overall success and not the quality of an artist’s individual album itself. Long live the LP.

  11. Does anyone actually take the Grammys seriously? Like I don’t think the awards reputation is some sterling historical record of the best albums of each year. It’s a show to make money and for people to pat themselves on the back, I’d assume Taylor wins.

"Is It Over Now" topping the charts is cool, but again, the charts seem so broken right now.

Hahaha that’s fair. I realized last night that I was making a stink about something that’s ultimately meaningless and I already thought was a joke 20+ years ago.

hearing word that apparently a new digital master was uploaded to streaming services on Monday or Tuesday to fix the mastering issues on a number of the album's core tracks - notably fixing a slight buzzing sound that plagued most of her vocals. it sounds like this only applies to digital and CD copies (i can't hear too much of a difference on my vinyl copy, but i could be wrong). only spun a few songs, but Style now sounds a lot better than it did.

on the one hand, it's super lame, on the other, if you haven't bought it yet, $5.99 is a great price lol

It will be in Apple Music next week more than likely. She did the same thing with anti hero and it was on streaming the next week or it might have been the same night idr
