The obvious choice for single is "New Romantics"

the only front-to-back good Vault was Red but those songs are incredible. would prob put these second, there's certainly enough now to make a fun vault/bonus track mixtape.

 

I dunno, Fearless has some killer vault tracks

 

I enjoyed the Maren Morris and Keith Urban collabs but have gone back to no others.

 

just waiting to see if the Reputation vault will have that leaked track Love is a Drug on it. those leaked snippets sounded really good.

 

Yeah, this vault and the Speak Now vault are probably pretty close for me. I just really, really love "When Emma Falls In Love." I missed her writing that kind of country song, and it's definitely a top 5 vault track for me so far.

 

It's so strange how some of these (like "Out of the Woods") feel pretty darn close and familiar, and then some (namely "Style") just sound inherently off in an unsettling, uncanny valley way.

 

The overall opinion - even on all of social media - is that “Style” sounds very strange, if not decidedly worse than the original. Pretty interesting that a large majority of people are hearing that same difference.

 

Where did she "reveal' this

 

I get this feeling and it's very close to how I felt. Like I could tell how these are re-recordings for the first time - 1989 is the first of her albums that I really got into so I have a frame of reference for the first time - and even the music sounded off to me compared to the original. The whole thing just seems slightly off. I gave it one listen and likely will never come back to it.

 

Zero percent chance this is true.

this is objectively worse than the original. its the Taylor album most familiar with and it all feels off

The only re-record-minus-Vault that’s good imo is Fearless, which is better and elevates that already great album. The rest… have not worked for me. Alas. The Vaults keep having varying amounts of gems, though.

 

Out of the Woods sounds waaaaaaay better imo

 

It's fine if you think of the whole thing as kinda unnecessary haha

Now that we're in the final stretch of this re-recording project, I think I've decided what I'm going to do: Go back through and pick the best re-recorded tracks from each album and put them in one playlist. I'm going to do the same for all the good vault tracks, and that's that. I think she secretly reacquired the rights to her old catalog already (or is in the process of doing so), and she's just finishing this project to see it completed. At the end of this, they'll all be hers, so we can listen to whichever version we prefer and she'll be getting the royalties.

 

I do expect self-titled will get a big, big boost from the re-record, both because that's the only album where I actually think she doesn't sound very good vocally and because it's the album I'm least attached to. So, there's that at least!

 

On the flip side, I feel like the Reputation re-recording is going to be extremely weird. That album is so recent that you're not going to get any considerable gains vocally, plus we've seen how replicating the Max Martin/Shellback songs without Max and Shellback is going for them, AND it's going to be tough for her to have to sing all those extremely poignant love songs about Joe.

 

Maybe she already recorded the vocals years ago

 

Wasn't there some legal thing where she had to wait to re-record that one?
