Right? I was listening while typing one of my posts earlier, and that guitar came in & had to pause and take notice, lol.

"I Can See You" sounds like a Minus The Bear song from Omni. I'm here for it.

  5. "Timeless" is reeeeally close to "Innocent" musically, and even melodically a little bit. The choruses, specifically.

I wrote a similar paper in college during this time too! In my Lady Gaga class. Yes I took a Lady Gaga class.

It killed me to speak negatively about Taylor in any way but I had to do what I had to do to get the grade lol

I have a soft spot for this album, because it’s definitely the one that got me to hop on board. But I also just think it’s more “her” than something like 1989, which is a really strong album that I love that also loses some of what made her special as a songwriter, at least for me. I tend to prefer her a little more raw, which is I think why this album still really holds up for me.

If I recall, there’s a fan edit out there (maybe on Bandcamp?) that really cuts down everything on part 1. I’ll see if I can find it.

99 percent sure that’s Rowe. He also did that on Fearless.

Patrick sounds weird/out of place because he's reigning it in? Not really belting it out in the verse.

I don’t get how you could like this album so much but spread so much public absolute hate for d/c dusk and summer

That’s because he’s doing the right balance of what he’s good at and what the song needs.

Yeah. I was kinda responding to the people complaining about it.

It's fine by me. Only one listen in so too early for me to judge

I'm a Red/1989 guy until I die, but Speak Now is the record that made me a Taylor Swift fan, so this is an interesting re-visit. I admittedly haven't spent much time with this album in years, so it's been fun remembering how much I love so many of these songs and reminiscing this morning with a friend who got into her around the same time (and who I've seen Taylor with four times now.)

I did listen to the FOB and Hayley tracks first, though. First impression of the latter was that there was not nearly enough Hayley for my liking, but I'll be listening again here shortly.

Musically, I think all of these sound great. Bigger and fuller than the originals. There's still a little bit of that uncanny valley at times, though, just because it's so close.

@Jason Tate for some reason i specifically remember you mocking the lyrics to "Mean." do you still hold the same opinion or have you come around at all?

I genuinely do not understand the joke, haha. Like, what's the comparison?

  22. I don't remember what my complaints would have been. Best guess was I was dumb and in my "everything needs to be more moody or esoteric" phase, or maybe because it was supposedly about a music critic I thought it was a facile attack at all music critics and felt the need to defend the "profession"?

Both dumb if that's what it was. Especially cause if the song is about Lefsetz that dude deserves far far far worse things said about him.

Still have an aversion to songs with words as weapon metaphors though, too cliche.

  23. The Fall Out Boy song rules. The Hayley feature has their voices sounding shockingly similar to me on first two listens. Almost didn't pick her out the first time when it was on while working.

Taylor Swift shortened her career last night. And since she says she calls all her own shots, she has to shoulder the blame. Yes, her dream came true, she made it, she’s a star, but the real test is longevity. Elton John can play with GaGa decades later. Will Taylor Swift be duetting with the stars of the 2030s? Doubtful.
    what an absolute tool
