It's coming from certain alt-right sites that have declared she's their ideal and try to claim that her lyrics are secret messages to them. The lawsuit is for supposed defamation (i.e. saying she's basically a white supremacist.) I don't like that she hasn't said anything. I don't think it's hard to say "I don't approve of Nazis"... but I also don't think she is actually a white supremacist. I think she's obsessed with her image, and right now her image is that she doesn't talk to the media anymore. Someone on Tumblr who attended a secret session for Reputation claims she said that she doesn't say anything because she doesn't want to give the alt-right any attention. Of course, there's no way to verify that, and it's not a great excuse either. I definitely don't find her to be a cold monster- she's smart, business-minded, sometimes problematic in ways that really disappoint me, but def not some the heinous icicle people try to portray her as.
It was definitely sexist of me to think of her as this cold phony I've started to see that the amount of control she has over her image is actually impressive , plus men are way more manipulative as we've seen
Taylor Swift has been an incredible, humbling force in confronting my own internalized misogyny tbh. I used to be such an asshole about her.
1. I Did Something Bad 2. Delicate 3. Don't Blame Me 4. ...Ready For It? 5. Getaway Car 6. Call It What You Want 7. King Of My Heart 8. New Year's Day 9. Gorgeous 10. Look What You Made Me Do 11. End Game 12. Dress 13. This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things 14. Dancing With Our Hands Tied 15. So It Goes...
I put together a playlist of what my ideal version of this album would sound like- not a huge difference, but i noticed it makes "so it goes" feel like a much better song lmao. 1) ...Ready For It? 2) End Game 3) I Did Something Bad 4) Don't Blame Me 5) Delicate 6) So It Goes... 7) Getaway Car 8) Gorgeous 9) Dancing With Our Hands Tied 10) Dress 11) Call It What You Want 12) New Year's Day B-Sides 1) Look What You Made Me Do 2) This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things 3) King of My Heart I felt like it would be better to have the petty (boring) songs as b-sides, but still end with a cute/love song.
Taylor's career is frustrating because there has always been stuff to call her out over but people choose baseless sexist stuff or go so over the top it looks ridiculous. Miley Cyrus is kinda similar in that regard.
I agree with making those last 3 b-sides. Those songs don't do much aside from making the album feel a little drawn out.
Yeah I know there's so much ammo and people grasp at straws, I mean she once said " I've said for years that diet Coke just gets me and my lifestyle" Plus her inability to handle criticism and her cultural appropriation of course
Someone already said it, but these rankings are so all over the place that it validates putting all of these songs on here.
Red being her best? Uh oh, we gonna do rankings? Yeah we're doing rankings: 1) 1989 2) Speak Now 3) Fearless 4) Reputation 5) Red 6) Taylor Swift I'd probably flip Reputation and Red, but right now its just too fresh in my head.
Lol I didn't realize so many people loved Red. I think it's the excessive run time that kills it for me. If 4 songs were cut I'd rank it so much higher.
I feel like Red and 1989 could both be argued as the best of the 6. But here's mine. 1. Red 2. 1989 3. Speak Now 4. Reputation 5. Fearless 6. Taylor Swift Fearless and the self-titled never really stood out to me outside of a couple songs, it wasn't until Speak Now that I jumped on the Taylor Train. Red might have a couple songs that should've been left as b-sides but it's definitely got the highest highs of her career. The Reputation ranking might change for me down the line, but right now that's where it's sitting.
I think it's hard for me because Red era is when I found her the most extra, there's definitely a lot of jams, I'm not sure I've actually listened to an entire album of hers other than 1989
lol i was ranking her records in my head in the shower this morning, this is what i ended up with 1. red 2. speak now (would be no. 1 had she cut "innocent") 3. fearless 4. taylor swift 5. 1989 (would be no. 3 if "new romantics" were actually on the record proper and "welcome to ny" and "bad blood" didn't exist) 6. reputation (dead last no matter how you arrange it)
