Liked more of this than I thought I would've. Counting it out, I was at least mildly fond of 9 of these songs. Definitely agreed with the people saying that as a whole, this record is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people have made it out to be in the last 24 hours. That said, there are a few absolutely garbage songs on here.
Ready For It End Game Delicate So It Goes Gorgeous Dancing With... Dress Call It... New Year's Day ^all worked for me, if even just a little
I don't really agree that this album was all that messy. I actually think it makes a hell of a lot of sense. I listened to it last night for the first time and I was apprehensive. I've loved every album she's ever put out, and the prospect of hearing a Swift album I didn't love was pretty crappy. But... with the exception of track 2, I think this album was brilliant. It didn't unseat Kesha's "Rainbow" for AOTY for me - and it was the only contender that could've done it, honestly. I'll have more thoughts on it that I'll get out in the next week or so (my band is in the studio as I type this) but this was more or less the TS album I didn't know I wanted at this point. "I Did Something Bad", "Getaway Car", "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" and "New Year's Day" are standouts for me, and the latter 3 are magnificent. I can't help but feel like this was the most honest effort she's given us since Red, and I appreciate the risks that she took - but even more so, I appreciate that she pulled them off ~in my humblest of opinions~. Yes, there are obvious influences and like with anything else, you could take some of the tracks and say another artist could've made that song - but at the end of the day, Swift's thumbprint is on all of those tracks and I don't believe anyone else could have made *that* song. (Except track 2. That one can choke.) This was the most pleasantly surprised I've been to listen to an album in a very, very long time. Could be that my relief is elevating it to seem better in my mind than it actually is, but... I don't think so. I'll have to listen again. Anyway, those are my thoughts for now.
Me, nodding, tearing up like a dork: thanks Tay. S/O to my boyfriend for getting these magazines for me.
End game is awful. I had to check the time on it cause it felt like it lasted forever and I still had like half of it left.
I don't like King of my heart either. The radio was having a Taylor takeover and I was enjoying it but had to skip that one. But then Sparks fly played and everything felt right.
King of My Heart definitely makes the least of a mark, nothing that I remember about it after a couple listens
Favorites: Delicate, Getaway Car, Dress, New Year’s Day Kinda: This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, End Game Funny how most are Antonoff songs!
So far I'm enjoying this album. I'd give it a comfy 3/5 right now, but it could grow on me. The last two tracks are the stand-outs for me, but "Getaway Car," "Dancing with Our Hands Tied," "King of my Heart," and "Endgame" are also memorable.
I love the verses of Dancing, but that chorus sounds so dated to me. On the other hand, Don't Blame Me has grown on me massively
A thought: What are the odds that Taylor listened to HNDRXX, heard Future say "It's hard to tell the real stories from the fake ones / Cause nowdays if they don't got it they'll make one" on Comin Out Strong and decided right then and there that he needed to be on the album?
In the same way as with 'Red', the album would have improved with a bit of pruning - 15 tracks is too many Take off End Game, LWYMMD and So It Goes and it improves considerably
