I just gave this to my 60ish year old co-worker, I don't expect it to go over well haha. For reference his favorite Swift song is "How You Get The Girl" and he still is stunned that it wasn't a single
One of the things I love about her is that I can trace her songwriting evolution from album to album. Yeah, this album dresses them up in synths and more of a hip hop production, but her crafts(wo)manship is as sturdy as ever and you can find cadence and sonic inspirations in a song like "I Know Places"
"When this album comes out, gossip blogs will scour the lyrics for the men they can attribute to each song" All the Kimye, Joe Alwyn, and Calvin Harris References on Taylor Swift's 'Reputation'
I feel like she leans on cliche too much on songs like that and "Love Story". Just a personal preference, nbd. Speaking of bubbly fun pop song, "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" is a JAM. If we got an album of songs like this, I'd be going wild.
Also, is anyone slightly disturbed by her adoption of urban vernacular on some of these tracks? Miley was draggeddddddd for cultural appropriation, I wonder if the pitchforks will be out for TS as well?
Yeah I mentioned this earlier in the thread, I know she got called out for it with the Shake It Off video
Also I'm sry but her thing on the magazine about how they're gonna guess who the songs about... Like duh. It's a guessing game she started and made into such a part of her music like of course it's going to continue sis. If u encourage people into doing it and tie it so closely into your gimmick/aesthetic they're gonna do it.
Review: Taylor Swift's messy, remarkable Reputation My favorite review so far. Breihan is just excellent.
I'd maybe say more Yeezus influences with RFI specifically, a few other places, it's not a crazy comparison
Lots of Kanye influence on this album, and not even lyrically. It’s kinda brilliant if on purpose. Also kinda ironic if not.
Wasn’t talking about that. More so how both albums have super messy moments but REALLY succeed at moments where certain lines will kill with a huge crowd. Oh and how certain segment of fans will hate lyrics on each album
