First time listening through a Taylor Swift album, Im on end game rn and I kinda like it a lot E: Yeah this album is pretty hit or miss so far
Almost through my first listen... a few mehh songs, and not having the same reaction I did on my first listen of 1989 (which I sung along to front to back in the car earlier and still love), but overall I'm enjoying this album. Will definitely be popping this into my car once it arrives tomorrow.
It completely baffles me. Took me over a month to write a lengthy, introspective blog post about Science Fiction. I couldn't just write about it on the day I heard it, there's so much to take in with albums. I might struggle when I actually get into music journalism haha
Still can't get behind "Look What You Made Me Do" because of the anti-tilted stage line. That stage design is the still the best
Easily one of my favorite tours I've been to Plus, that line is just petty if that's what she's referring to. Like why haha
I had tickets to the date he canceled because of his breakdown. Was 45 minutes in the drive at that point.
So after one listen I'll say this: she's made this album before. Here me out. Liken 1989 to Fearless which would make this the Speak Now. Little change musically overall. Like SN this has higher highs but lower lows as well. wait nevermind. 1989 has Blank Space
I think that secret session performance is cute. I love that the fans are already singing along. I’m alteady annoyed that I now like Taylor Swift enough that I’ll have to shell out for her tour. I was still on the “I like her but not for hundreds of dollars!” Train when 1989 hit Detroit. Now I am a SUCKER. Rly though can we all pause and acknowledge how insane I Did Something Bad will be with 50k ppl singing along?
Listening to this on my commute to work this morning and this is just frankly fun af and never what I would’ve wanted or expected but I’m dancing enough that I don’t care. Never shed expectations this quickly for a major fave of mine when they gave me something else.
So I have been paying close attention to all of the singles released for this album and have been severely disappointed nearly every time. Now that I have listened to the full album all the way through twice, I think the songs she released as singles leading up to Reputation's release are the worst on the album. My expectations dropped significantly with each single released, but I love almost all the new tracks I hadn't heard yet. There is some great songs on this. Thoroughly enjoying another Taylor Swift release. Its not possible that she intentionally released the worst songs as singles to keep the best tracks secret until the release, right?
I think she just released "Look What You Made Me Do" because it was going to be the one that made the biggest splash, especially on social media. "Gorgeous" and "Call It What You Want" are both perfectly good songs, the latter especially. The only odd single release for me is "Ready for It." I think it would have been cooler to hear that for the first time pressing play on the album.
I like "Call It What You Want" but it isn't close to one of my favorites on the album. "Gorgeous" is my least favorite song on the album. I just would think it would make more sense to release a song more people would instantly love, like "I Did Something Bad" or "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things". She may have wanted to avoid controversy with a song like Nice Things, but the huge chorus on that track is great. Either way, it has just been an odd experience for me that I was so excited for the album, was generally disappointed by the songs released, then was pleasantly surprised by the full album.
Honestly, I very rarely understand the songs that artists/their teams choose to put out as pre-release songs. Taylor probably could have put anything from this album out there and she would have been the talk of the town, so I guess she just wanted to showcase different sides of the album?
FEMME TAY the pix from the target magazines are SO cute and funny. i was on the fence but i might snag them after all.
