actually just came in to this thread to say how bad end game is. HNDRXX is one of my favorite records of the year.
Only at Gorgeous, but so far this feels less cohesive and more like a collection of songs than an album of hers ever has
i don't see this remotely changing any diehards and/or younger audiences views of her. Publications are more likely to call this what it is, but at the same time I think that'll play right back into the 'reputation' narrative of her wanting to try new things. I don't hate this album but there are for sure some absolute garbage songs on here, and the lyrics are so corny/weak throughout most of this which is unfortunate when she's plenty capable of really illustrative songs. Interested in what the next step from here is.
I won't hear it until tomorrow but I'm hoping I like it more than most That's actually happened with quite a few records this year so I'm still hopeful
after 1.5 listens imo this album is really mediocre and is really annoying about how mediocre it is. some of the songs are great ofc, what a shame
Future isn’t the bad part of End Game. Taylor’s “reputation, big reputation” part is rough, her syllabic rapping at the end is cringey, and Ed is so corny. Future’s kind of just there.
Jack's hallmarks are all over Getaway Car. "We never had a shotgun shot in the dark" plays exactly like "We were shotgun lovers, I was shotgun running away." Taylor even kinda does his yelpy inflections
true, and there's no question this is a commercial success, but if the opinions stay on the "this is bad" side, it could catch her team off guard, and it could make it hard to recover. I know it's silly to compare a (mostly) crappy pop punk bad to TS, but reading this thread is reminding me of reading the YNE thread.
Ed Sheeran is talented. I don't know why his music is so widely maligned aside from everyone calling him a faux nice guy or whatever
This website’s a good barometer for pop punk emo stuff. Not so much mainstream pop. She’ll be fine and the album isn’t nearly as bad as the hyperbole. Lots of “normal” people love it. My tech twitter feed is really into it so far. The politics feed has other things on their plate. Also people on this site has mean things to say about 1989 when it came out too.
I am not saying he's bad, I just don't understand the success he is having. Like how is he the arguably biggest pop star in the world right now?
Really like Getaway Car. It's sad, though, because all through the album I can hear moments where it's like she's trying to write clever lyrics, but they're just... not. Just a lot of weird wordplay and awkward kiss-offs. Hopefully critical reaction to this is lukewarm so she heads a different direction next time.
Yep. Why he’s huge is a very easy question to answer. Dude writes insanely good pop songs that people relate to. Haha.
I actually like LWYMMD a lot more in context. It makes more sense. "End Game" is the only song on this that I really don't like so far, but I don't really love anything either. I think she kind of lost what made her interesting, for me.
Mostly faux nice guy stuff Also, and this is petty and unfair I know, but women in pop are held to such a high beauty standard and he's so ugly
I thought most of his stuff was really inoffensive & bland. Like, I'll listen to it, but I'll never go out of my way to listen to any of his stuff.
